Could NK Or F9 Work To Hawaii

Wed Jun 10, 2015 3:38 pm

I did a search and didn't see this discussed, but if it was I apologize in advance

Could the ULCC (thinking mainly NK or F9 )model work going from the west coast (SAN,OAK or LAX perhaps for NK) to Hawaii and could we see it in the near future?

I don't think so. What G4 discovered is that rooms are not growing in Hawaii and demand is. That means high room prices. That's a bad mix for ultra-low-fare service. It also means stimulation isn't really much of an option on a large scale.

yeah, I think Allegiant tested the waters and while not a total failure, it wasn't what they had hoped, so I don't see these ULCC's trying as well.

There's two things that'll prevent NK and/or F9 from trying out West Coast to/from Hawaii:

- Cost for ETOPS certification & maintenance

- Weight & Payload restrictions

They could always get the right planes. But as noted, ask G4 about Hawaii and their 757's....

Never say never.

What clearly didn't work for Allegiant was the "small cities/secondary airports to Hawaii" concept, but I see they're still flying there from LAX and LAS.

I doubt it's a high priority for Spirit or Frontier, but I wouldn't fall over in shock to see one of them attempt it, one day.

They're probably need the A321Neo for it - has Spirit ordered it? Frontier hasn't yet.

Supposedly arriving in 2019 according to their spirit.com website, after taking delivery of their 30th A321 in 2018.
