A350 Factory On BBC I-player

Mon Jun 15, 2015 9:37 pm

Carol Vorderman visits the Airbus UK wing plant, concentrating on the wings for the A350. Flies with them in the Beluga to Toulouse and later flies on an A350 test aircraft.
The hour long program was broadcast in the BBC Wales region.

Entry level, celeb fronted - though Carol has an engineering background and a PPL - however very detailed.

Obviously most outside of the UK won't be able to view this though it might be worth keeping an eye on certain video posting sites.

Just finished. Really good watch actually, just about the right amount of geekery for an evening   Carol seems pretty enthusiastic also.

What we leave behind is not as important as how we've lived.

Very interesting to watch! I love how they study the eagle's wings and try to replicate nature. And how the A350 wings can change camber or surface area of the wing during cruise. Thanks GDB for the original link,a nd KarelXWB for the Youtube links.

The end of part 2, well, let me just say the biological engineering is also top notch!

Thanks for the link, just finished watching the documentary. Presenter carried a decibel counter in flight, cabin registered 76db, not certain where measurement was taken, fore or aft, still very quiet. Also loved the sound of the Rolls Royce engines from inside the cabin at take off. Interesting fact about setting a record for it's time of assembling and flying a Wellington Bomber in 24 hours 48 minutes, well and truly gone are the days.

Surprised to see Prof. Wood on the TV. He taught me aircraft performance more than ten years ago at Uni. Great to see him doing well!!

But why was it only shown on BBC Wales...what about the rest of us!

They do sometimes screen docs and some other shows, regionally at first but they usually are later screened nationally. I saw it by chance on i-player, which you can argue blurs the lines between regional and national BBC TV.

The program was part of the The Real North Wales season shown on BBC Cymru | Wales, which has been exploring life across north Wales through some different shows.

Also worth noting that the Welsh Premier League football team, Airbus UK Broughton (they have their origins as the works team of the Broughton Aerospace factory) play in the UEFA Europa League, first qualifying round, on the 2nd of July, against NK Lokomotiva Zagreb

Same here in Germany, due to possible music rights in the video.
