LOT To Announce Tokyo From Jan 2016 This Friday

Wed Jun 17, 2015 2:20 pm

Hi there,

Found no mentions of it so far, but please consolidate/delete if already discussed elsewhere.

It is rumored that after the expansion limitation expires at the end of 2015 (which was posed by EU Commission after receiving public help from Polish government), LOT will finally open long-awaited new routes to Far East. The official announcement is due to be made this Friday and the most likely (first) candidate destination is Tokyo, not sure however if NRT or HND.

Countdown puzzle is already on LOT's FB profile, so place your bets please:

Haven't they already flown to Japan (Tokyo?) in the past?

How close is LOT to ANA ? LOT isn't exactly a world class carrier, so they'll need all the help from ANA that they can get.

Only irregular charters, as far as I know/remember.

Their current long haul business and premium economy classes are actually pretty decent, on par with most European Star Alliance members.

Edit: Apparently, it's not only NRT, but also BKK, SIN, PVG, ICN, IAD, BOS, SFO and MIA.

If the leaked information turns out to be true, they're in for a major expansion. Which is a good thing...

No, they can connect through ORD

I think most if not all will be codeshare agreements. If not, they'll need more widebodies than the 2 more 787s they got on order....which don't look to be arriving till ~2017 in my estimation.

Oh but they're trying. Their product in Y+ and J is well decent, well up to par with other airlines like the other guy said.

Congrats to LOT and good luck to them!

Well, they both are part of Star Alliance. They should be closer to ANA than JAL, for example.

Nope.
These will be pure LO flights, operated by own metal.

Yet they're discontinuing routes to Dusseldorf, Chisinau, and Yerevan next month... They'll need to add European cities not discontinue them if they want to fill all these long haul flights. Exciting news, though!

Heheh that's not saying much. Are they more like QF/AA or QF/CX ? Or UA/NH or UA/SQ ?

Translation:
For months, speculation in the press, at last what is LOT preparing for 2016? The carrier is already in the final straight to complete a successful restructuring plan and only a few months away from the dynamic development. It is to begin in January 2016 year. For now, everything is shrouded in mystery, but only until next Monday. Then on June 22 during a special press conference, which will last up to 4 hours for the first time will present the strategic objectives and development plans LOT - including new routes that will appear in the Polish grid lines as early as next year. During the meeting, they will be presented also the latest and independent macroeconomic data on the development of air transport in the region of Central and Eastern Europe - a natural market in which it operates Airlines.

What LOT will announce at a press conference?

1. The new long-haul route network.

According to unofficial information, LOT announce strong entry into Asia. How did we learn? LubieLatac.pl is certain that the offer of January 2016 will be: first, Bangkok and Tokyo, and later systematically Singapore, Shanghai and Seoul. The line will also appear even more pronounced in North America, according to information published by the Wprost to New York and Chicago will join Miami, Boston, and San Francisco Washington. On all these routes, you can expect high occupancy and there should not be any problem with filling up aircraft. These plans confirm that LOT has the ambition to create a regional center in Warsaw for connections to Central and Eastern Europe. This is an excellent alternative for Lufthansa and carriers from the Middle East.
2 more on order. If my math is correct that makes 8.
Definitely not enough for all those routes listed in the polish article.

I heard also when they announce the long haul network stuff they'll also announce codeshares/agreements with Garuda and Ethiopian for some reason...don't shoot the messenger though.

+ those last two 787s on order apparently might be 787-9s, which will be nice , added capacity.

The posts on their Facebook page make it seem like only NRT is going to be announced for now. Aside from IAD, I'm a little skeptical about the other North American destinations. Do they even have enough aircraft to start all those routes?

On a side note, I somehow missed that Eurolot shut down. Are there plans to keep the Q400 long-term and repaint them into LO livery?
Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

Apparently, there are also 8 options to be exercised. Some time ago, there was paid article at ATW Online, where LO CEO stated he wants to double the long haul fleet by 2020.

IAD and MIA might work, I'm not so sure about BOS and definitely surprised about SFO. I wish them luck, though...

That is the plan.

Recall that one of LOT's 787s is currently leased out to Air Europa (SP-LRF) until they receive their first 787 (which should occur around Feb/Mar 2016). so LOT intl expansion can begin as early as then. No need to wait for the last two frames to arrive in 2017/18.

Will LOT be using a 788 again for charter flights like last season. I read somewhere that the WAW-DUR seasonal charter will be moved to a WAW-JNB flight?

good move with decent potential of respectable S/F + yield year round along with cargo. In addition ANA would also code share and feed it nicely.

What LOT should not do is venture into BKK as it will get killed there no matter how promising it looks from a volume stand point as the competition (indirect) is far too high + yields way too low.
