EVA Air Plans To Operate 100 Weekly Flights To NA

Sat Jun 20, 2015 3:16 pm

According to airlineroute,

Quote:
EVA Air by 2020 plans to operate 100 weekly flights to North America, increase from current 63

With recently launched flights to IAH. It is expected that ORD will be next for them.

The ideal aircraft for an expansion would be on a 77W. They are expected to take delivery of two 777-300ERs in the 2nd half of this year, seven more in 2016, and 2 more in 2017.

Thoughts? What routes can you see them opening or adding frequencies in North America?

Let's start with getting IAH and ORD up and getting those to daily. After that, probably some flights via ICN, NRT and YVR.

I wouldn't be surprised if EVA added frequency out of SFO and LAX.

On a side note, all this week I've heard EVA radio ads for the first time (just about every hour) here in The Bay Area. They mention easy connections with award winning service through Taipei to Southeast Asia and China.

Well, let's see. The gap is 37 flights a week. My guess would be service to Star Alliance hubs, which will add the greatest value to them.

Here are some thoughts on where the additional 37 flights could come from by 2020:

YVR - Currently 4x weekly, could increase to 10x week = +8
YYZ - Currently 4x weekly, could increase to daily = +3
SEA - Currently 7x weekly, probably no change
SFO - Currently 14x weekly, could increase to 18x weekly = +4
JFK - Currently 7x weekly, probably no change but why not move back to EWR?
LAX - Currently 21x weekly, probably no change
IAH - Currently 4x weekly, could increase to daily = +3
GUM - Currently 4x weekly, could increase to daily = +3

HNL - Not currently served, could introduce 4x weekly = +4
ORD - Not currently served, could introduce and then expand to 12x weekly = +12

Quoting IAHflyer97 (Reply 2):

I don't think the via option at the airports you listed is possible.
ICN: Bilateral air service agreements between Taiwan and Korea are very limited.
NRT: Even though it is losing many of its long haul services, the airport is still unwilling to further allow Taiwanese fifth freedom flights.
YVR: Canada-Taiwan air agreements also very limited. BR not likely to get fifth freedom.

KIX may be possible. The airport company is very willing to provide compensations to carriers offering long-haul services at KIX.

One the side note, I would very much like to see BR operate flights to Miami. A second NYC daily to EWR would also be nice.

ORD in 2016 confirmed by CEO during 2015 annual shareholders meeting.

I don't see IAD or BOS on the list of cities served, and I would expect that either BR or CI will want to enter those markets before long. And after that, they may look at DFW and ATL, where they already have cargo services.

Flushing, Queens, is the densest concentration of Taiwanese outside of Taiwan, and the largest outside of the San Gabriel Valley. It was a mistake for BR to fly from EWR, and JFK is clearly the place to be for a Taiwanese carrier. JFK can easily support double daily BR flights -- or more -- to Taipei.

Also the reason of why China airlines restarted direct Taipei-JFK service instead of it flying via Osaka.
