Summer has hit Ireland ! A great day for watching the skies. The DUB-SFO flight just passed over Newry and I got this shot.

Is this actually going in to any regular service or is it just going to be for training as was suggested originally?

As well as for crew training it will also serve as a back-up aircraft in case of the 73Hs go tech - the 73G can then be flown in at relatively short notice.

Possibly because of the scarp metal they operate or should I say plans they serve the majority of T/A services. The B767 need to be scraped ASAP as they are not very reliable.

While I am aware that EI/BA code share on LCY-USA route I believe EI selling DUB-LCY on their website is a recent development

One other note-My 138 flight was on -EWR. 5K is not worth sitting in, and I'm glad I didn't switch to it. It's only a half Captain Kirk seat, and is like the A seat, with only one console on the window side. Combine that with the proximity to the aisle and the galley and there is only one real Kirk seat - 3K. The guy in 5K looked pretty uncomfortable most of the trip.

As mentioned before, there is no center overhead bin. While I love the open feel to the cabin (and there is plenty of storage for bags), there is one downside. The middle seats don't have an air vent, so if the cabin is warm you're out of luck. This happened on our flight and while we were okay in H/K, others in our party in D/G got hot while sleeping. If EI is monitoring this...keep the temperature down a couple degrees more on -EWR in J!

A post on another thread a few weeks back mentioned this aircraft was going to have a sort of executive cabin fitted & be available for charter work at weekends. Whether that's more than a rumour we'll just have to wait & see.

That's an excellent schedule offering for ORK - essentially what DUB had before the competition. Hopefully the route does well.

Good to see some positive route news for ORK!
Let's fly! Unless it's on a CRJ 200, then I'll stay down here.

Its great news for the airport. On some boards the discussion has taken a surprising and depressingly negative tone, pondering where growth would come from. ORK-LON is well down on its peak, so there is plenty of room for growth. The arrival of another airline to ORK is excellent, but if the failure is of similar scale to the last airline arrival, it will be a disaster. This is a make-or-break route for the airport, so I really hope they succeed.

The schedule is very much aimed at the ORK/Munster based traveller, it appears to be a based/night stopping unit, flight tim 1h25, so I assume an F50?

ORK-LCY

Sad news for those trying to make a living in the tourism sector there. I somehow think we will not see services resumed this year, despite the current strong advertising campaign by Tunisia on Dublin buses the fear factor will be likely strong.

To prove that you can never underestimate Ryanair, who would have predicted that they would also decide to accept cash fares in Greece. That may last some time also.

Sad and I have been to nearly all of the resorts some years back. Really nice people and hotels. I hope that they manage to get the DUB flights back. Back in the day it was Panorama Holidays that had DUB and ORK flights.

Indeed they have had to adapt to the local situation although they are still accepting all payments online but for Greek cards its under EUR60. A friend of mine used his Greek issued card and managed to pay for a ATH-PFO flight for EUR23 today. Lucky that FR offer these cheap fares

Not 100% but I expect it to be inside Hanger 6 for AerCap guests to have a look.

Delighted with the new CityJet route to Cork, hope it goes well for all involved and it comes at a crucial time for the airport so it will be interesting to see how much support there is on their side after the Prague/Ibiza mess. You can be sure CityJet will market it well, they've done a very good job with previous campaigns around east London, multiple adverts in London papers and a near blanket covering of ads in major tube stations, especially the Jubilee Line.

It looks like a nice schedule too, great to see the RJ85 and the introductory fares are decent, I'd forgotten they actually included a checked bag and complimentary drink/snack service so they're very competitive already.

I've booked my flight anyway so looking forward to that!

Yes I remember when I compared pricing and posted last year ( DUB-LCY ) BE BA WX they came out favourably due to the bag included. The ORK fares are very good value currently. Lets hope it continues. WX had a reputation of very high fares on the DUB-LCY route at one time however they do seem to be more realistic these days with fares from EUR36-40 oneway all in.

I agree, they recovered fairly quietly in 2010-2011 but think this will take longer. It would really take somebody like Ryanair to bring numbers back but security needs to be addressed.

3K is great, with loads of storage within the seat itself. There are overhead bins, but only along the sides of the aircraft and the only ones missing are above the center row. I only snapped one pic of the cabin and it was of the bulkhead logo, but you can see the open feel a little bit here. Also don't forget that this is only on one A330, EI-EWR, and the rest of the fleet has all three rows of bins.

Do EI do like they do and blank off any seats which may not be available? I recall on short haul 9AF, 23AF and rows above 29 are usually blocked off regardless of wether A320 or A321 are planned to operate. Maybe tis the same for the A330s?

Most posters will be well aware that I am a big fan of EI J class catering, I think it is among the very best J class dining experiences. Maybe not as good in terms of presentation and finish as OS, however they do have an on board chef, but the food is more germanic in style, so overall I do prefer EI. Think 80s dinner party and you'll not be far off, complete with silver platters. Sadly the waterford crystal is gone, so maybe 90s dinner party!

Nope I have looked on expertflyer, in economy there is an "x" over blocked out seats. In business there is no x, the seats are just empty.

There aren't too many in business class at all to be honest which i'm surprised at.

II wouldnt put 100% faith in 3rd party websites like that. They would not have the pre-knowledge of which particulr aircraft is operating. They would base it on the general config of -200 or -300, as per the schedule.
The Aerlingus.com seat map will block off pre-booked seats, this doesn't mean that the seat are going to be empty. The booked pax may not have selected a seat yet. Aer Lingus only assign a particular reg to a flight approx 2 days before.
Are you on the early flgiht? Maybe the J Class loads are light on it...the A330 flgihts should be very full at this time of year.

The Revival lounge is excellent-located next to baggage belt 6 prior to customs. I particularly like that it's open to EI transatlantic Business class passengers only, and there is no other way of gaining access. That's a good thing especially because it's a small lounge.

I was waiting to see your post! Thanks so much for posting those pictures!

It's really good that it's only Business Class passengers. Considering what EI charge for Business Class, it makes sense. Having showered in various airline lounges over the years, I would have to say that these are some of the nicest I've seen. I like the design very much! Absolutely dying to try it when I return from Boston in October!

Nice work   I feel I should take some clothes that need pressing just to give it a go!

Definitely take 3K over 5K, even if it's a -300. You also ensure you get your first choice of entree (but I've never had that problem on EI before).

Seats are operationalyl blocked and not available on the seat map, it doesn't mean they are actually taken tho. There are many reasons for this:
- Some seats are designated for disabled passengers, and assigned at the airport only
- Some seats rows have more oxygen masks than others, so are held for passengers travelling with INFs
- The airlines usually prefer to have unaccompanied minors in specific seats where the crew can keep an eye on the,
- Weight and balance
- etc etc

These seats are typically Z blocked in the reservation system. When checkin opens (24-30 hours before departure) , the reservations and seat requests (it's only a request when you make a reservation), are transferred to the checkin system. The checkin system or agent can then open and allocate seats as required.

A seat map NEVER shows you the load on the flight. Only blocked seats, and seat requests which the airline intends on honouring. Airlines typically don't automatically assign you a seat when you make a reservation, only when the checkin system opens.

Correct. People often make the mistake of thinking the seat map is the reflection of the loads. Sometimes EI block off the remaining seats in J on the TATL so many days in advance and people complain they cant get a window seat yet when they check in they open up.

I just can't understand why someone wouldn't choose a seat. When you go on the Are Lingus website you HAVE to choose a seat before you proceed to pay.

Not everyone books online, a lot of corporate travellers book through their travel department. Business travel is usually booked quite last minute too.

In Economy, most airlines now charge for seat selection, so no seats are allocated to those that don't pay until checkin opens.

If would be pretty ironic if they were looking for the usual rainy low-vis Irish weather!!

As al2637 says, not all is booked on aerlingus.com.
In addition some companies may forward book the seats but not actually allocate the name and check-in till 2-3 days before.
Again, please don't assume that your own experience and/or opinion is the only relevant one.

Maybe my route isn't used by business travellers too often. Or perhaps its just the day I am travelling on that has caused hardly anyone to book.

Sure, could be a lot of things, but usually business cabins fill up later. Or maybe you just got lucky and have an almost empty cabin! Enjoy!

Delta 73, Amsterdam to Atlanta, a B744 diverted to SNN. Fire in cargo hold warning. Engine shut down on the runway waiting for inspection.

I don't think anybody mentioned as the thread is concentrated on southern aviation but Virgin Atlantic commenced the service from Belfast to Orlando last week.

Hopefully this will be extended in future years.

You don't "HAVE" to choose. It's optional. I never choose a seat with EI as they have free seat selection as check-in.

Business travelers generally make their booking last minute. I would imagine given the political ties, amongst other things, between Ireland and the US that the IAD flight would have quite a few J class pax.
Let's fly! Unless it's on a CRJ 200, then I'll stay down here.
