The new meals are not being introduced until August 1st, except for JFKLAX/JFKSFO/MIALAX.

Oh that's right. We'll have to wait a month for the new AAsian Fusian meals.

For all of you wondering what the first class meal upgrades will entail, take a look at this article. Pictures are included!

This looks to be a huge improvement!

It certainly does!

I'm happy I am flying with AA/US in October on a bunch of flights. 1 transcon (over 2,200 miles), 2 other flights over 1,299 miles and one outside of meal times in the 900-1298 mile bracket.

A friend of mine who has been flying AA for years told me not to expect much from the current catering. I haven't flown AA since before the merger and the meals were fine then so I am happy they are being enhanced again.
I do enjoy a spot of flying, especially when it's not in economy!

Thanks for posting the link. It was amusing to read the comments - so many people complaining about having seafood!

The new meals at least look very good, looking forward to trying them out.

Is the Lasagna vegetarian? And no vegan option. Must not be a popular request.

Yes.

Very few people are vegetarian, let alone vegan. But there is nonetheless vegan option on MIA-LAX, JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO, along with Kosher, gluten-free, etc.

There is a vegetarian option on all AA flights with a meal service. Not necessarily vegan, however.

That is absolutely not true. While many AA flights offer a vegetarian entree (though until recently, never during lunch), AA does not guarantee a vegetarian choice. Only dinner flights have a guaranteed veggie entree, and then at that, the appetizer is often not veggie. It's incredibly rare to be vegetarian, and AA realizes that.

AA meals were significantly, severely degraded 9/1 of last year, barely fit for human consumption. I agree with you - pre 9/1 of last year, AA meals were quite decent, especially for a US carrier. Proved that Dougie and Hector will go to the furthest lenghts possible to kill the product and raise profits (or so they thought). Jury is out on if the new meals are actually edible or not. Lots of us are skeptical given US management's stellar track record with "enhancements".

I have flown on AA/US F 6-8 times between ORD-SFO/LAX/PHX/SJC the past 6 weeks (including yesterday) and while there have been vegetarian choices (was it all the time, can't remember), IIRC, even the appetizer indeed wasn't veggie.

On a side note, in terms of seat pitch and comfortability, F on US A319's are probably the worst F seats I've ever had to deal with.

I've always wondered how many people request veg meals during the "business traveler" mealtimes. I am impressed though that AA still offers a veg entree on intl Y flights (usually vegetable pasta but still!). Certainly is nice that AA reintroduced the salad entrees at lunch - if only there was a veg protein option! I know, I shouldn't get greedy.

Well, I suppose we'll have to hope that washingtonflyer will report back so we can resolve this dispute!

Well, I just got done eating. Meal was OK. Three strips of roast beef (slightly dry), teriyaki sauce (not overly drenched), pineapple rice (steamed rice with mini chunks of pineapple in it), snap peas (about 8 pods) and carrots (about 4 carrots).

Came with a salad that included sun dried tomatoes (two pieces), feta cheese, and pine nuts. Salad was, well, petite.

Sourdough roll or pretzel roll.

I'd rate it about a 5/10. Not great but not terrible.

Person sitting next to me took three bites of his cremini mushroom ravioli and didn't touch it again. Attractive female passenger sitting across the aisle was practically licking her cremini mushroom ravioli plate. So, different tastes and different expectations.

Thanks for posting the follow up.

My next flight is now not until late August, so I'll be the lucky recipient of an AA lunch MIA-DFW. I imagine it will be the vegetarian ravioli or salad with either chicken, beef or shrimp on the side. Have done the salad with the chicken twice last month so I'm hoping for the shrimp. Well, I'm REALLY hoping for a hot meat entree, but that might be asking too much for a lunch flight these days.

I said to AA employees, who couldn't way to throw out Horton & Co. in favor of Parker & Co., that you might get a CEO who got his start at AA, when Bob Crandall was running the best airline in the U.S. But, you might get a CEO who was running America West, which never matched the on-board product of the legacy carriers, and then bought US and simply created one large carrier with an inferior on-board product.

"Attractive female passenger sitting across from me"... Dude we know what you were thinking as the *attractive* female passenger practically licked her cremini mushroom ravioli.

I'm not sure what your sample size of two means. Attractive passengers like cremini mushroom ravioli and unattractive passengers do not? Might be helpful for the FAs to know this. "Sir while we have a couple of meal options and you are welcome to choose the one you want, I typically find that unattractive passengers like yourself will not like the cremini mushroom ravioli."

What did the passenger's attractiveness have anything to do with the quality of the meal?

However.....Wagyu meatloaf? LOL, ok, whatever.
I think we'd be lucky if it was USDA choice beef from Gordon Food Service.

It does have actual Wagyu beef mixed in. It would be illegal if it did not.

The teriyaki beef turned my stomach so wildly that I had to use the white bag in the seat pocket to barf. It was slimy, chewy terribleness. The FA said I wasn't the first one to do so. Since this episode, I have only had the pasta, which is essentially store bought ragu on top of mushy pasta. On the flip-side, the breakfast option of the egg omelet, sausage and potato has been very good in my opinion, as is the oatmeal.

To all of those who are disappointed with the changes made by HP/US d.b.a. AA make your dissatisfaction known through the appropriate channels. There are many AA employees who are saddened and embarrasses by the deterioration of service. The best way to influence the product is to remind those who make the decisions saleries are made possible by your loyal patronage that you will not settle for sub par...

The new first class meals look terrific! The first time I flew American was back in 2010 and it was on First Class. My wife and I enjoyed fratatas that were excellent. That was almost 5 years ago, so it's rather nice to see food quality actually improve for once! Those meals look like some of the eclectic meals you'd get at a rather upscale restaurant.
