In the PMNW days, NW often sent the 752 into MDW. At least once during a fare war (TZ for sure, and I think when WN entered MSP as well), they even sent in a 753 as part of the PMNW "heartland strategy" of driving out competitors through dumping cheap capacity at a loss - which worked very often. PMDL played similar tricks with FL and B6 (Song) as well, though they didn't have the PMNW track record of success (especially with Song).
Thankfully, the strategy of high short-term losses mixed with capacity dumping is not part of the profit-minded DL business plan of today.

It has little or nothing to do with capacity dumping. The 753 was a semi-regular visitor at all sorts of airports in the midwest in the mid-00s. MKE-DTW--a route with no competition--frequently saw the 753 in that time period.

Remember that NW had the MKE focus city at the time, a part of the heartland strategy that was specifically designed to drive out FL from their MKE expansion. IND also saw the 753 during the focus city days there, which successfully drove TZ out of their hometown.
Just because MKE-DTW didn't have competition directly didn't mean that people were connecting to other NW flights via DTW at rock-bottom low-yield fares priced to kill FL.

What time period are you talking about? FL wasn't that large in MKE before the YX merger effort. In the mid-00s, MDW was as much or more of a focus.

In fact, if I recall correctly, MKE was one of the cities added with CRJs as part of AirTran JetConnect and didn't come online until 2002. It was years before it became a significant station. FL was a blip on the radar at that time; if NW had a concern at MKE, it would've been keeping YX boxed in.
