Well, I have to say, if you are going to use a name. "SCAT" would be it. One person said to another, Let us name our airline after the English name of POOP. Really? Hell there are sexual connotations with it as well. Good Grief.

It is a crappy name, but shockingly not all countries in the world use English.

I believe it was originally an acronym. Shimkent Kazakhstan Avio Transport?

Anyway, will say no more or shit will hit the fan.  duck

I agree, SCAT is the worse airline name in the world. I'm sure some higher-ranked employees there know what the name means in English by now. Also, I'm glad that list didn't have Malaysia Airlines on it, as I have already seen a few articles titled "Most Dangerous Airlines" with Malaysia Airlines as #1.

As a native English speaker the definition I hold of scat is either an improvised method of singing sylablles over music or to "go away" or "leave" usually in a bitter manner. Never heard of it being feces lol. Nevertheless still a stupid airline name.

When I think of dangerous, I think of Susi Air.

Always good to read a properly researched article..apparantly Garuda is banned from EU airspace??

On the note of names, and SCAT (who i flew with on April, and quite enjoyed), i figured a less well known Turkish MD80 start up called Ankair might get the title, since the company logo- a set of wings shaped like a large W was placed infront of the airline name along the fuselage... I shall leave all sexual /masturbation jokes for another poster though lol

I believe that the EU ban ended around six years ago. They have also since been awarded a five-star rating from Skytrax, currently one of only seven airlines that hold that status. Although the Skytrax rating is all about quality of product and service, it's not too long a bow to suggest that Garuda is not the airline that it was when the ban was first initiated.

Don't see how a name can make an airline dangerous, was that the case something as cute as Susi air would never have an accident. As someone else pointed out, a very large part of the world are not native English speakers, rather, a sizeable chunk of it has a peculiar way of bending the Queen's language into something hilarious. Various Asian nations excel at this, and whole webpages have been devoted to celebrate their silliness.

As it is, this poster is currently writing in what is, after all, only his 3rd language.

Having said that, Ankair is a classic example of branding gone horribly wrong, and I encourage anybody in need of a good belly laugh to have a goo-goo search.

As for dangerous airlines, the world is pretty simple: If you're about to fly with an airline from a nation you'd rather not be governed by as an average citizen, you should be aware of the risks you are taking. You should then remind yourself of the staggeringly low probability of ending up as an accident statistic, and have a go at trying something different.
Signature. You just read one.

I remember watching a tv series about them, my god was it nuts. Every flight seemed like a death defying experience. As for the pilots, well im almost sure some of them were not long out of pampers   And ill bet some of the passengers were needing a pair too during some of those mountain edge approaches!

Maybe 'dangerous' is an over dramatic word but definitely mega scary with a bit of sketchy thrown in.

One always has to take these evaluations with a pinch of salt especially when the article makes assertions which one quick look at an airport timetable would prove to be wrong. In this regard the author refers to the EU and US ban on Lion Air as being 'a ban shared by fellow Indonesian carriers Garuda Indonesia' which would imply that those GA flights into AMS and LGW are a figment of my imagination?

I flew Lion a few times a few years ago while hopping around Indonesia. Quite honestly, the experience on board was more pleasant than most US airlines... but I had been drinking quite a bit of Bintang.

Let's not be too critical about the name "SCAT." After all, it's the name of the public transit system in Sarasota, FL https://scattrack.scgov.net/bustime/home.jsp And they *are* in an English speaking country.

Possibly better than FART, the public transit system (trains, buses) in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland (Ticino). Short for Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi.

Some learn faster than others:

Gold Coast Transit, formerly known as South Coast Area Transit (SCAT), is a local bus operator in western Ventura County, California

In Seattle, they were ready to call a company "South Lake Union Transit" but they changed it implementing it. The un-official "SLUT" t-shirts, however, are sold at tourist shops.
