There's rumors of EuroWings and TAP starting flights to FLL.

There are no rumors of TAP starting FLL and EuroWings already applied with U.S. DOT to fly to the United States and said it will launch FLL in March 2016, from Cologne.

I'm sure they won't. AirBerlin serves MIA daily. MIA is an OneWorld hub, so I find it hard to believe that Eurowings will give AB any hard time.

Plus, Lufthansa backed out from DUS-MIA because of AirBerlin.

More of a practical question this time, is AA still sending the PMUS A330s on MIA-PHL-MIA? I'd like to visit Philadelphia in the fall / early winter, but all I see is 763s. While 767s are fun, I prefer the suite product on the A330.

The outbound flight on which the A330 was on MIA-PHL is AA1656. I forgot which one the return is.

In other FLL news, pax traffic was up 9.9% yoy in May and is up 9.1% yoy for the first five months of the year. International pax numbers grew for the 22nd consecutive month (18th consecutive month of double-digit growth) and were up 21.7% yoy for the five month period and up 47.9% over the first five months of 2013. JetBlue pax numbers grew 16.1% in the five months to May 31, 2015 and accounted for 20.7% of pax, followed by Spirit (17.9%), Southwest (17.9%) and Delta (12.2%).

That's probably exactly where this ridiculous rumor that is not grounded in any reality started - Azul buying TAP. Azul flies to TAP. TAP flies to FLL.

Ridiculous.

FLL can't attract one single mainline European carrier and TAP is suddenly going to fly there? No.

I was just looking at MIA's page on Wikipedia and it shows that Fedex has a regional hub at MIA. Of course Wikipedia does have errors on occasion so is it true that Fedex does have a regional hub at MIA?

I was wondering if any of the more seasoned members can tell me what happened to the "Fly Eastern" sign at MIA. I understand it was torn down, I just wanted to know when and was the story of its final days. It's a real shame that American didn't replace it or keep it. Would have offered a nice touch to the airport.

I wasn't aware that AA was using that hanger...or was it torn down? Isn't AA using the ex-National hangar?

Such a shame, airlines that BUILT that airport now long gone.

MIA has two LCCs already, because Sun Country is an LCC and besides their charter service to Cuba, they have 'normal' service to MSP.

If its Virgin America, then they aren't telling that to their staff at FLL. I know three people that work there and the only change they know of is that their JFK seasonal is going to start again on November 2nd..

Maybe it is Virgin America because Virgin Cruises is based in Miami. So maybe they'll offer a travel bundle? Just my two cents.

I would highly doubt jetBlue would make a move into MIA. They are making major capital investments into FLL infstructure and are said to be close to closing a land lease deal with the county to build a MX facility.

Absolutely none of that precludes JetBlue coming to MIA. JetBlue likely loses marketshare in the Northeast markets because there are a ton of people that won't use FLL, either because it's a dump (which it is) or it's too far.

MIA service can help them gain that marketshare back.

I completely agree and I don't understand why a lot of people on this site think that operating in FLL excludes one from flying to MIA.

I just got interesting news from a person I know. This is what he had to say:

"I spoke with someone at the Miami Taiwan Embassy regarding the rumors of flights from Miami to Taipei. They said the Miami Airport Officials did visit Taiwan to discuss the possibility of direct flights from Taiwan to Miami. Both EVA and China Airlines were interested. EVA has since abandoned interest and chose Houston over Miami (that flight started in late June). China Airlines is still interested but apparently it won't happen before 2020. China Airlines wants to fly their new 777-300ER on this route, but the current orders with Boeing are already assigned to current and new routes. Apparently by 2020 they will have enough 773s to assign to this route"

2020 is a long time.. And a 77W? I think a A359 would be far better option. Nonetheless, this is odd but interesting at the same time.

Interesting, adds on to what I heard earlier this year. I am very surprised that China Airlines will be pursuing the route, seems much more like EVAs territory given the outstanding aircraft orders and their previously announced NA expansion.
