Once weekly, from December 2015 to April 2016, WS will serve MBJ from YYZ with their "new" B767-300ERs.

Equally interesting is their expansion out of Edmonton, almost all of it which appears to becoming from Encore. Details pasted below, but to go from YEG YLW daily to four times daily, or YEG YXE from daily to 3x daily shows some significant growth. Grande Prairie has always done nicely for WestJet & Encore.

FWIW, if I were transiting in Western Canada, YEG is a much nicer airport than YYC. albeit the hallways are kind of long. WestJet's Calgary operation is very compact.

Route Frequency Departs Arrives Effective
Edmonton – Nanaimo Daily 12:45 p.m. 1:51 p.m. Dec. 15, 2015
Nanaimo – Edmonton Daily 2:25 p.m. 5:12 p.m. Dec. 15, 2015
Details of WestJet’s additional flights from Edmonton:

The increase to YEG-YLW is *by* one per day not *from* one per day. Similarly for Saskatoon and Regina: an increase of one flight per day (from twice daily to three times a day). Grande Prairie goes from 14 per week to 23 per week.

That will likely also mean WS will be serving MBJ from YYC, and using it as a bridge to transition to YYZ; YYC-MBJ-YYZ-MBY-YYC. WS has initial plans to use the 767s YYC-YYZ-YVR but beyond December it was supposed to be Canada West to Hawaii and no more trans-Canada flying.

Interesting scheduling development from Team Teal; the initial plans were to use the 767s from Alberta to Hawaii. Kind of surprised they are doing this for the winter months. It must mean lots of demand for MBJ, as they did not procure the 767s for Caribbean flying. Curious if any other southern sun spots would see 767 service. CUN might warrant it.

Actuall, the schedule published on the link seems to indicate it's going to be YYZ-MBJ-YYZ. Now will WS use on aircraft only out of Toronto, will they schedule them to operate something like YYC-YYZ-MBJ and return?

WS2702 YYZ1045 – 1456MBJ 76W 6

WS2703 MBJ1630 – 2032YYZ 76W 6

This services is complemented by the 5th 767 Westjet recently procured. No doubt Westjet wants to develop YYZ summer Europe and winter Caribbean operations with this 5th bird.

There is no 5th 767. That was an unfounded rumor.

Also, WS did Alberta to Hawaii with 2 757s, makes sense that with 4 767s there would be more routes than Hawaii next winter.

The B767 will only be operating YYZ-MBJ-YYZ, there are no YYC-MBJ plans so far.....

The 767s are planned on the YYZ-YYC-YYZ route all winter.....so there will still be trans Canada flying.

Don't look into this to much, it's been added to MBJ to get more usage from the aircraft. It's a single day of the week, Saturday, there is usually a reduced schedule on weekends so they just moved the aircraft. More to do with training requirements than anything else...

There is no fifth aircraft, only 4 aircraft have been purchased so far....

Perhaps they reached a deal with one of the cruise ship companies to shuttle the pax to the Carribean. Isn't Saturday the usual day for boarding the 1-week-Carribean-cruises?

MBJ isn't a cruise port departure terminus. For the Caribbean, they usually leave from San Juan, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, Houston, and a handful of other places. I would guess that WestJet Vacations does quite well there if they are sending the 767 to MBJ.

Thanks for the clarification. Ever hopeful for it.

No 5th 767... too bad. 3 with missions from the west, 1 in the east, is not a bad toe in the water kinda operation. I really hope they get traction and grow. But I do think they are a little late to the show, as Rouge has a big leg up in that biz now. AC can respond very easily to make their growth and its profit from theses machines quite a challenge.IMHO>

Are the 767s being used to launch LGW next summer?
