Whose 777-266ER Is This?

Fri Aug 07, 2015 8:26 pm

i was just looking on and noticed a B777 circling for landing at RMS, i guess. But there is no more information just that it is a 777-266ER. A quick googling made it clear that it is an former Egyptair bird.

But shows that 2 former MS B772 are now flying for BG and 1 is stored another one written of and one still active. So did some charter airline took a B777 out of storage recently? Or fly MS and BG charter for US military?

WB152 - Operated by Egyptair - SU-GBR
WB153 - Operated by Egyptair - SU-GBS
WB154 - Operated by Biman - S2-AHK
WB155 - Operated by Biman - S2-AHL

WB151 formerly operated by Egyptair is removed from service permanently.

So take your pick which one was the one you saw.

It's the "block" number. Starting with 737's Boeing uses them to define the configuration of a particular customers airplanes (except 787 which has them but doesn't use them). The first letter defines the airplane type P(classic 737's),Y(737NG), Q(722's), R(747), V(767), N(757), W(777) ad Z(787). The first customer is assigned a block of airplanes based on the amount they may buy in a particular configuration -- they don't necessarily buy all the airplanes listed in the block however. They start with A as the second letter -- the first 747 was RA001. On the 737 when they run out of "A" (999 airplanes) they go to "B" and so on. With other models that don't sell as may airplanes they go to B, C, D, E etc with major model changes.
