The Chinese order for 45 A330's will be split as follows:

- 20x Hainan Airlines
- 15x China Eastern Airlines
- 5x Tibet Airlines
- 5x Sichuan Airlines

Is this the same 15 that China Eastern announced in August? I assume so.

Is the demand for mobile devices so strong that Cargolux needs 5 new 747-8F's to help transport them? I'm not complaining, just seems pretty excessive.

Each new generation of Apple smartphones sets a new shipping record. They cleared 70 million units in the quarter after the launch of the 6 and 6s last year and this year's models are selling even stronger. Add in the new iPads and Apple Watch and we could see 100 million units between now and year end and almost all of it is shipped via air cargo.

Air India has decided to take the last 3 Boeing 77W on order instead of converting them .

Aibus reports 121 new orders in September.

"Topping the activity in September was Wizz Air’s firming up of its commitment for 110 A321neo aircraft that was signed in June at the Paris Air Show. This agreement, from the largest low-cost carrier serving Eastern and Central Europe, marks the biggest single order ever for the popular A321neo – the longest-fuselage member of Airbus’ new engine option (NEO) jetliner family.

The month’s other booking for Airbus’ single-aisle aircraft product line was from Croatia Airlines, which is acquiring four of the A320neo versions. With these latest transactions, the combined number of A320neo-series aircraft on order exceeds 4,300, and the total customer count has grown to 76.

In September bookings for Airbus A330 widebody jetliners, BOC Aviation ordered two A330-300s and Standard Chartered Bank signed for another two A330-300s – with all four aircraft earmarked for lease to Eva Air.

Completing the month’s A330 new business was RwandAir’s signing of a firm contract for an A330-300 and a shorter-fuselage A330-200 version, making this Republic of Rwanda national flag carrier a new Airbus customer and the first East African client for the long-haul twin-engine airliner.

Also included in the September order book was Groupe Dubreuil’s acquisition of an A350-900 version of Airbus’ new extra-widebody airliner. This brought total A350 XWB orders to 783 from 41 customers.

I think what Hamlet means is that this is standard MO for China orders. The Chairman lands in Paris or Washington and bequeaths industrial favors like so much fairy dust (300 for you, 400 for you, 900 here, and 150 there). Nothing gets firmed or properly accounted for in the UFO bucket until the individual carriers have received the Chairman's blessing stating that they are allowed to proceed with a public announcement covering the exact details of their piece of the puzzle.

It's all extremely opaque and in my opinion doesn't do China or its carriers any great service. I suppose the only positive is that China orders remain the greatest ongoing detective mystery here at A.net.

I did not mean, nor did I imply, that they were booked in September. I apologize if that was unclear or vague.

Sources have suggested that some of the 300 are UFO orders already booked, while the majority will be new (tho even these might be initially booked as 'Unidentified'). We won't know the full story until such time as all the official approvals have been signed off and Boeing updates their order book. Again, just as the press release stated.

Per @Boeingairplanes Twitter: "Thanks to @VoeGOLoficial for adding nine more 737 MAXs to your fleet plans. Total MAX orders = 2,878"

So it is most likely/definitely a conversion.

2,878 planes is a good backlog but still way behind the A320neo backlog.

After canceling 7 A350 jets, SQ now re-ordered 4 A350-900 aircraft.

http://www.airbus.com/newsevents/new...ong-range-version-of-the-a350-900/

In addition, 7 A350s from the current order book will be converted into A350-900LR.

I read it as 11 ULR

Quote:
Under an amendment to the carrier’s existing order for 63 A350-900s, seven of the aircraft will now be delivered with an Ultra-Long Range capability for flights of up to 19 hours

I read this as 7 of the 63 will now be delivered as ULR

Next sentence:

Quote:
In addition, the carrier has placed an additional order for four A350-900s

So plus 4 ULR (that would make 11)

Quote:
taking its total firm orders for the A350 XWB Family to 67.

Net increase is only 4

Given that the 7 slots were "sold" at the request of Airbus, I suspect that it is more likely that things worked out the other way around. I very much doubt that SQ lost out on this deal.

Great news about the A350-900LR.

Maybe Emirates has found its winner?

In their search for a regional aircraft? I doubt it. For its future ULH fleet EK already placed an order for 35x 777-8. The A359 has a more than decent shot for EK's regional widebody fleet, but quite likely this will be an A359 with reduced MTOW.

Will be interesting to see which other airlines will order the A359ULR. VN looks a like a candidate, despite signing some kind of understanding with Boeing. DL perhaps, and surely other airlines already having the A359 on order.

So plus 4 ULR (that would make 11)

You are assuming that the new order is for the ULR variant. They could have converted 7 existing orders to the ULR then ordered 4 more standard A359s to make up for the fact that they will be receiving fewer standard A359 than initially planned.

Quoting speedbored (Reply 133):
Given that the 7 slots were "sold" at the request of Airbus, I suspect that it is more likely that things worked out the other way around. I very much doubt that SQ lost out on this deal.

Still strange. SQ didn't have to cancel the 7 planes- Airbus just wanted the freed up slots and would have easily (and probably preferably) accepted a deferment of those 7 planes while keeping SQ's total A359 commitment to 70.

I am guessing either SQ wanted to reduce their commitment by three frames or the extra cost of the seven A350-900ULRs are being absorbed by cancelling three A350-900s, allowing SQ to not increase their CAPEX.

True, but they could have simply cancelled 3 and amended 7. The way they went about it seems odd and hints at a more complex behind-the-scenes story. Regards. -ir

I read it as 11 ULR

I read this they will receive 7 ULR and 4 additional A359s (not ULR). Here is the quote: "seven of the aircraft will now be delivered with an Ultra-Long Range capability for flights of up to 19 hours. In addition, the carrier has placed an additional order for four A350-900s, taking its total firm orders for the A350 XWB Family to 67."

The last part regarding the additional 4 units says A350-900s specifically; if it was A350-900ULRs I believe they would have said that.

Congrats to Airbus and SQ. Looking forward to seeing these flights back in service.

Well as far as I memember this could be not the first one which will lead to a firm order at VN. As you mentioned correctly some kind of understanding....

additional 4 units

Good to note that the additional 4 units were part of the 20 options they had along with the firm orders, thus leaving them with 67 firm and 16 options.

The Singaporean national carrier has a revised total of sixty SEVEN A350-900s on firm order from Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) along with sixteen options.

The want to walk away from their 787 order:

http://atwonline.com/manufacturers/a...negotiate-boeing-787-9-commitments

This might explain how Norwegian found 787-9 delivery slots in 2017.

Looks like Boeing already found a new customer for those AF slots. Good for them and for Norwegian of course.

Boeing tweeted these are for 737MAX aircraft. 6 cancellations likely Oman too (Wikipedia says 6 737-800 on order).
