Now that I saw so many 789 in different colours I am spoiled, I don't like the look of the 788 anymore. All airlines should be requested by a UN convention to convert their orders into 789's, they have a perfect look.

Both aircraft are back in service but still the reason is unknown . Lets see if more planes will be spotted without engines.

No. It always takes them a week or three to get a teen into the air for the first time.

This leaves LN 19 as the only remaining early build frame in storage, the only one unsold to my knowledge, and one of only two (along with LN 4, currently in use for RR engine testing) that has not begun rework.

Any insight as to why LN 19 still lacks a customer? Is there an issue with it that will make rework slower/more expensive? Might Ethiopian ultimately decide to take it along with the other six teens?

With nearly four hundred 788/789s now in service, is the Boeing turning from an ugly duckling into a swan?

The A350 is struggling by comparison. There are literally only seven in the air at any given time.

The A350's delivery delays are being driven by delays in the delivery of Buyer Furnished Equipment (specifically, seats from Zodiac Corporation). And there is already a thread about it, so let's keep this thread on-topic about 787 deliveries, not A350 deliveries (as that has it's own thread, as well).

It's LN 12 that has the imminent first flight, and, no, it didn't go yesterday. Not scheduled yet for today either.

Thinking this delivery is going to be much later in June than the 2nd.

I attended a Four Seasons event a couple weeks ago and visited with a rep from their
private jet group, who was touting their private jet vacations aboard their shiny black 757.

I mentioned that Crystal Cruises had purchased a 787 of their own and suggested
Boeing had a couple more 788's looking for good homes.

The rep smiled and said " we know"

It is an amazing achievement, given that those DC10s were delivered over a 15 year period (1972-87), whereas the first 787 is not even five years in service now and has already got past the 400 mark and will probably reach 470 by the end of the year.

Who are the 15 "unidentified" 787's for in Boeings latest update.
Can't be China Eastern because that has already been announced, but on the other hand it is the same number of aircraft

"On April 28, Boeing reported China Eastern Airlines finalized an order for 15 787-9s, valued at $3.97 billion. However, in its month-end tally, Boeing recorded the order as coming from an unidentified customer."

Mostly a political decision. Air China is the Chinese launch customer for the 789 and as such will get a "head start". This is mostly a marketing gimmick inside China etc... The same happened with the 788 with China Southern where it got a couple weeks "head start" over Hainan even though Hainan's frames were ready to go.

A couple of tweaks in the latest monthly Boeing O&D:
> ALC allocated 2 of its 789s to RR engines (going to El Al in 2017-18) & 2 to GE engines (most likely extra frames to Hainan)
> China Eastern's order for 15x 789 got added to the Undisclosed list (added along to Hainan and Xiamen orders in there)
> CIT allocated 1 of its 789s to RR engines (Norwegian frame to be delivered in 2017)
> Privatair transferred its final 788 on order to ECAir (was initially going to be leased by ECAir, now to be owned outright)
> Aercap converted final 3x 788 to 789s (these are going to Neos of Italy in 2018) and allocated an extra 6 frames to RR engines (additional frames going to Norwegian)

After more than a week of delays, it looks like Ethiopian's first terrible teen (ZD004/LN 12) will take to the skies today:

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE12

(Presumably numbered BOE12 instead of BOE4 to avoid conflicts with test flights that LN 4 has been doing lately.)

I don't see any way this frame can be delivered before late June. Since Ethiopian is currently scheduling flights with it at the beginning of July there is little room for error.
