I'm really liking Frontier's repaint, I think it looks a little upscale for a ULCC. And although many people don't like the Saul Bass Frontier Logo, I think its great there former logo was so bland and the flyfrontier.com livery was horrible. I can't wait to see all of the planes in the new livery but its only going to be on new deliveries for a while.

Also I don't like Spirits new School bus/Banana livery its really ugly. The one thing I'll give them is its hard to miss.

That was the idea behind the conversion of the Airwest fleet to flying bananas after a mid air collision with another aircraft IIRC.

It could be spun that NK may have a minor edge in mid air collision avoidance technology with the brilliant yellow livery, let's see if NK marketing picks up on this comment & runs with it. HA!

I saw 502 just yesterday. Boy, that new livery sticks out like a sore thumb in the blue sky!

I really like the new Banana Bird look of Spirit!

Not only does the new livery recall Hughes Airwest, it states "HOME OF THE BARE FARE" on the engine nacelles -- really capturing what the company stands for.

Also, I like that "HOWDY" is painted on the inboard side of the new A320 sharklets (or whatever they are called), visible to all in the cabin who happen to look out their window and to those on the ground. The only picture I could find showing HOWDY is this partial one of an A320 taken in Toulouse on 7 April of F-WWIM, which would be re-registered upon delivery as N641HK:

I very much enjoy seeing these birds here at IAH, where NK has been increasing its service. They now have two gates at Terminal A and would seem to need a third, what with planes often holding short upon arrival!

The yellow is better than the weird silver-gray-charcoal checkered scheme, evocative of a business-carrier, which I feel is wrong for Spirit -- here is an A319 at LAS on 24 Feb 15 in that livery:

Who doesn't like the 'F'? Remember the actual logo was the 'F' within a red oval. The 'F' used alone was only seen on Frontier Holdings material after the holding company was formed in 82/83.

Where is NK repainting being done.. it was originally in RME , but I believe they had issues (one plane had to go back for touch-up IIRC)

Thanks Woodreau, I realised that after the cutoff for editing, so it should read:

The F is great as a standalone logo. The F is terrible as part of a wordmark.

I agree completely. It doesn't look right, but I would much rather have the animals then the "F" back on the tail.

Am I reading this correctly, that only 9 of NK's planes have been painted in the yellow? That doesn't seem like very many, given that the livery's been out for a year. Am I wrong in this, or is NK backing down on the livery given the, um, lukewarm response?

They still have lots of aircraft in the old checkerboard livery. I think it is more of a cost issue. Why repaint if you don't have to?

Even with the old four-color livery (after the pixels), NK took their time repainting aircraft and only 5 aircraft (ships 502 thru 506) were ever repainted in the 7 years that scheme was around. 533 and 534 were delivered new as were all of the A320s, and 515, 517, and 521 received the new livery when they rejoined the fleet.

Interestingly, ships 502 and 503 are the only aircraft in the fleet that have worn all three schemes.

We could consider their slowness in repainting as NK's way of catering to spotters.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread 3 years later but is there an update for F9 and NK?

I kinda like the idea of a green tail with a white circle and the green F in the middle, with the animals on the engines.

Question/observation about Frontier's repainting. I haven't seen any planes in the current livery that were built before its introduction. Does this mean that F9 is just being cheap and not repainting their older planes, or is there another reason for it? I'm puzzled as to why they haven't repainted any planes to my knowledge, as you'd think that since it's been 3.5 years since it was released, that some planes must need to be repainted.

IIRC, aircraft are only repainted every six or seven years when they go in for heavy overhaul, unless they have sustained damages that require new paint earlier. Where I work, our aircraft get a big overhaul every six years and they look like new, inside and outside, when then return to service.

Frontier won't be repainting any of the older airplanes as they will be returned once the leases expire. The older livery aircraft will be gone in the next 5 years.
