Great to see SAS back at LAX, only seen them twice before there, back in 1983 with a DC-10-30 and when I was in LA back in 1992 spotting at LAX and saw them bring a 763 into LAX.

With added US pre clearance at ARN it will be even better. I read that it is expected to be completed in about a year from now.

I guess connecting pax would have to get on a super early flight in order to clear immigration and catch the 9.50am departure.

I'm not sure how much clearing immigration would add to the MCT, but since the LAX-bound flight is already leaving quite early it could risk cutting off possible connections.

I think your knowledge about the scandinavian countries and the airline market here needs improvement. Its not so much where people live that counts but rather where the traffic comes from. Stockholm has by far more relations to LAX than any other nordic area. Most major companies are based in Stockholm and for instance the music industry is booming. Even when SAS flew LAX from CPH most of the passengers originated in Stockholm. It was politics that steered swedish traffic through CPH. This is being corrected now. If it was not for competition from Norwegian this would probably not have happened.

No Norwegian Cruise Lines were bought up by a Malaysin company many years ago. It's only Norwegian in name ...

However, Royal Caribbean has their head office in Oslo, Norway. Royal Caribbean was orignally an all Norwegian company started by 3 shipping companies in Norway in the 60's. Today there is also other international owners in adittion to Norwegian, including american. However the headoffice is still in Oslo.

You cant have three capitals always being served by one hub. Feeding through CPH is what got SAS into trouble. SAS simply didnt get enough of the market out of Oslo and Stockholm. Remember we are talking about three countries here. SAS is now taking action and trying to get the traffic back they lost to other carriers by feeding through CPH. Both Oslo and Stockholm need to be served nonstop to major markets. This is why SAS has three hubs. You need to know more about the markets in Scandinavia before you apply your general knowledge about how to create hubs etc. What SAS is doing now is what they should have done years ago. They simply lost much of the norwegian and swedish markets by feeding through CPH. They are correcting now and its a matter of survival for SAS. If they hadnt started longhaul nonstops out of OSL and ARN their future would have been in jeopardy. They are simply protecting their home market. Maybe it is too late already?

There has been an adjustment to ORD-ARN where the flight now departs about five hours later from ORD (21.00 instead of 16.25). I thought it was strange and didn't really make a lot of sense to me when I fist saw it, but it could be for fleet utilization purposes.

You are wrong. You have to measure traffic flows to prove that. All traffic originationg from Stockholm through CPH has to be extracted from CPH figures. Market research when SAS was actually flying from CPH to LAX showed that a large portion originated from Stockholm. They had no choice but to go via CPH then. Now there are multiple choices of transit Points and the only way for SAS to keep up is to start nonstop flights from Stockholm.

Prove me wrong? Now SAS had made a choice besed on market studies. Prove them wrong if you like

And just like Royal and Carnival Norwegian's World HQ are in Miami. I know Finland is a large ship building country, not sure about Norway though. Either way the amount of business travelers between Miami and Norway for the cruise lines is probably not going to make and break the flights profits. The amount of people coming from Norway to hope on cruises in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale is.

Remember, Miami is home to not just one huge cruise port, but two. Miami as being #1 in cruise traffic and Ft. Lauderdale being #2-3 in total cruise traffic.

i'm glad SK is finally waking up to the competitive reality that they can't run a 3-nation airline entirely out of CPH. norwegian has forced SK to up their game, and for that I'm grateful for DY (but not their separate issue about ireland/thailand crews)

the next challenge for SK is how to reclaim lost market share out of OSL. DY is absolutely dominating there in the long haul space

LAXCPH: 76,840

The numbers are similar today, albeit not published anywhere public online.

The fact that SAS chose ARN over CPH for LAX service likely has more to do with the fact that it allows SAS to provide two daily flights to California, one from each market.

Stockholm is a very fast growing city and especially the technology industry is expanding big in Stockholm.

So I think this route will be a very good multi-purpose route for both business and pleasure.
Obviously music and the entertainment industry in general are quite technology intensive
compared to 10-15 years ago.
