Sat Aug 22, 2015 12:29 am

It appears that the Minnesota Vikings are buying the former Northwest Airlines headquarters complex from Delta Air Lines.

I know DL/NW merged 7 years ago (that went fast) but when did they finally move everything and everyone out of these buildings?

Delta divested the property to a developer a few months ago.

I know they weren't in the buildings. But I have fond memories flying into MSP and seeing the NW logo on the top of the buildings. I do miss those days.

If you're speaking about the building complex on the airport property I think history records that they were built and used by North Central Airlines prior to Northwest. And if so I learned this from the book: Ceiling Unlimited;: The Story Of North Central Airlines,1973, by Robert J Serling

There was a big 'N' logo on top of bldg. A (or the NATCO training center, I don't remember). Of course buildings C,F and the hangers had logos but none on the roof that I recall. Fun fact: building C was NC then RC headquarters. Up till the mid-00s the lobby looked the same as when it opened in the 60s.

Always sad to fly over them and see them empty.

$10 million is a stunningly low price for that amount of acreage and the large buildings.

I wonder if the buildings are tear-downs at this point?

NATCO, the NWA General Offices and eventually flight attendant training were all located at the Eagan campus. I am sure DL is glad to be rid of the things even if they did have to sell them at a bargain price. Like most things NW did they were functional--not ostentatious--and did what they were intended to do.

Building F never had any NW markings on it to the best of my knowledge. NW was happy that most people did not know that it was theirs since it was mostly just a training facility but it did include crew scheduling, inflight service management offices and in the early 80's revenue accounting was there. You used to see carts full of thousands of used tickets in the halls and elevator.

Building C was RC's corporate headquarters and eventually NW reservations moved in there when Building A (the ugly green windowless lump attached to the hangars) was demolished. Most of us long-time NW folks remember that building as the place that we were hired. It also had a killer employees cafeteria.
