WN Begins Wear-Testing New Uniforms

Wed Aug 26, 2015 10:32 pm

A friend of mine posted this pic on his Facebook page. Seems that wear-testing started today with certain looks and pieces. These aren't final decisions. Wear-testing will last 6 months. Decisions will be made. New uniforms will launch in 2017.

Love the bold, trendy look! Not sure about the shorts with the vest and long sleeve shirt though!

Most of the coordinates with the shorts look like FedEx driver uniforms. The one with the red shirt looks like a Staples stockperson. I'm guessing those are for ramp jobs or other positions out of the public eye?

The womens' dresses and skirts look pretty good. I guess the mens' stuff looks ok other than the shorts. They don't seem to be matching long pants with t-shirts, which makes a big difference IMO.

What a huge improvement! Much more professional looking. Hopefully they are durable. Can't wait to see these come to fruition.

I'd love to see airline uniforms modeled on non-models. Ya know, the vast majority of the people wearing them. Stuff on model bodies rarely translates well to actual human bodies.

I have seen the high quality images of each piece, and there's a lot of subtle details that you can't really see in the photo linked by the OP. Looks very sharp. Reminds me a bit of VX. Looks like they are keeping the shorts, but they look a lot less "frumpy"

Love how all the clothes are hung on tall, skinny people. Are all staff members at Southwest anorexic?

Designs look good, but not sure how they will look on all the different body shapes.

A lot of new uniforms recently. By my check, these airlines have or are debuting new uniforms when written.

Virgin America 2012
United 2013
JetBlue 2014
American 2016
Southwest 2017
Delta 2018

True! But also, maybe people should aim to fit INTO a uniform and not have the uniform cut to fit them in an UPsize. EVERYONE can agree pieces look best on the ideal frame, it's the best display. Example: most of us work in poorly lit conditions and if we wear jewelry it doesn't look it's best: but if you go to the jewelry store the items are under BRIGHT lights! Realistic? No.... but does it show well? YES!

Moving forward the idea is that not every piece is for everyBODY. Literally... "body". If you're bigger, then acknowledge it and wear what hides your insecurities but don't try to say to those in the "slim fit" items that those items should be adjusted for YOU. It's a way of rewarding different styles with their own identity. As a thinner person maybe you can't wear said piece and maybe as a fuller-figured person you can't wear some pieces. You have unique identifiers.

For some reason that's the style human bodies are drawn in fashion design. I agree it doesn't translate well to reality, but I think such sketches are more to show off the designers vision rather than the final spec of the items.

Shorts should be for ramp only.

I have a problem with men in long sleeve shirts rolling them up either to the wrist or elbow. Doesn't look professional. Also. is that a female in shorts and heels? Yuk. I have no problem with shorts. The F/As fly all over the country in one day, from 100 degree weather to freezing and aircraft often get very warm at the gate.

Soooo, shorts aren't unprofessional, but rolling your sleeve is? Tell that to the droves of businessmen who do it everyday.

Are some of those sketches from a Delta? Looks nice, but I would expect those colors and widget-like shapes from Delta.

I completely disagree. If anything, I think a long sleeve shirt rolled up is more professional than a polo. I see no problem with rolled up sleeves. Also, there is no mandate that I am aware of that requires anyone to roll up the sleeves, it's just the picture.

There is nothing wrong with a polo on an airline like WN. It's fine. To remark about shorts. Shorts are fine too when flying to places like PHX in the summer. To the comments I made and the reaction.....read my comments again. It;s ok to wear a long sleeve.....just leave it down, My comment about shorts was the picture of a female in shorts and heels. Which corner is she working? The other point I'd like say is there should be dress codes for passengers. I don't know how companies like Macys make money. Nice shirts, decent pants and shoes etc are not the norm any more. Wife beater shirts. flip flops, dirty feet just tell me people have no mirrors in their caves and self respect has died. There is a man on Anet who travels alot and sends back trip reports . I believe he is in the FLL area and travels on many flights. I think he is under 20 but one thing is outstanding. In the pictures I have seen, which are very few, he is also ways dressed. Self respect......

I see what you are saying about the way people dress when they fly these days. There have been many discussions about it here in a.net. It always boils down to the same thing. People say "No airline is going to tell me how to dress", "Who do they think they are?", "I'll dress any way I want and the airline WILL like it!" "It's my RIGHT to dress however I want".

The fact that sometimes people are treated based on their appearance is totally lost on these dolts.

Personally when the Southwest F/A's were wearing the polo shirts with the khaki pants/shorts looked great on most of them. It was very comfortable and utilitarian, plus easy to take care of too.
