Final Month Of BA 737 Ops

Mon Aug 31, 2015 9:34 pm

BA are entering their final month of 737 operations and are now down to two aircraft. The end of an era!

Though there will of course still be some Comair 737s in BA livery flying around Southern Africa. Not quite the real thing but better than nothing!

Never liked BA's 737s. Always felt like an inferior product, which I know is not really the case but personal opinion.

Thanks for sharing. How many years in total have BA operated various 737 models ?

(Off topic, I know but on the opposite side of the globe, this month also marks the end of 737 service with Air New Zealand, just a few weeks shy of 47 years since Air NZ's predecessor NAC first started ops with 737- I have to admit I would have loved to have seen them get to 50 years of domestic ops with them here )

Details of BA's history with the 737 can be found on the web page below

G-DOCF operated it's last flight from LGW a couple of days ago. This aircraft is expected to be ferried from LGW to VCV in the next couple of days.

That leaves just G-DOCW and G-DOCX. Both of which will remain in service until the end of September

Wonder how long it'll be (if ever) before they start incorporating Boeing narrowbodies for short haul.

Interesting, as up until 29th June, FlightAware has all G-DOCF's flights listed, and then everything stops. Are you sure that it was flying up till a couple of days ago?

I doubt they ever will, BA Mainline (and IAG) are moving towards an all Airbus narrowbody fleet and have been for some time, which is evident in IAG's outstanding order for A320neo's. BA always used to be staunchly Boeing for both short and long haul, this trend in a highly competitive market has been breaking over the last 10 years or so.

IMO, Boeing will probably be first to market with the next new-design narrowbody so I would expect IAG to seriously consider that family.

Heathrow T5 is built around containered baggage, while it can handle a few Bulk Loaded (ex BMI/IB) it will struggle with a full bulk NB fleet. So it's very unlikely you'll see new 737s at BA until they can take containers.

The next chance to see Boeing narrowbodies at Heathrow in British Airways colors will be when the 737-Max replacement is offered. Shame they didn't go 737NG back in the day. I do hope the 737-Max replacement or the MOM ends up with my favourite carrier.
