Times would allow for some good regional connections for the likes of INV, EXT and BHD plus being the 1st flight to arrive from China to the UK, potential for the GLA and EDI to nab some connectors. Hello Flybe, sign them up as your next codeshare partner!

now in the local press

"Carrier Hainan Airlines will run the service from next June, the M.E.N. can reveal.

The route will be officially announced on Friday when the President joins Prime Minister David Cameron at Manchester Airport .

But the fact a direct Beijing flight has been secured was today confirmed by Ambassador Liu Xiaoming in a column in the MEN."

MAN's continuing in the rich vein of garnering long-haul routes; just wonder how many of the usual suspects will also come to fruition.

easyJet have loaded their S16 schedule for most routes.

Comparisons to S15 indicate:

MAN-AMS increases from 2x/day in S15 to:
- 4x daily on Sun, Mon, Fri
- 3x daily on Tue, Wed, Thu
- 2x day on Sat

If FlyBe and KLM remain at current levels this will result in S16 MAN-AMS 15x/day:
- KLM 6x/day
- FlyBe 5x/day
- EZY 4x/day

Other changes anyone?

Based on the itinerary (National Graphene Institute, Etihad stadium area, civic lunch at the Town Hall and route launch at the airport), I would hazard a guess sometime between 3 pm and 4 pm so that decent shots of the departure can make the papers. If free, probably best getting to the airport 2ish or thereabouts.

25 years of EK at MAN. Who'd have thought a 2 weekly A310 via FRA would metamorphose into 3 daily services carrying 750,000 passengers per year.

The article also lists the top 10 destinations for them with selected highlights being DXB in 1st place, ISB in 2nd place, HKG in 3rd place and SIN in 7th place. The only reason for selecting those 3 connecting routes is that they already feature as destinations on offer. 4 of the other routes listed are former destinations so.... if MAN gets them back, will they too not have an impact on EK's operation?

2 million passengers in October reports the Business Desk. Moving annual total.... 22,955,790.

23 million passenger for the year? November 2014 saw 1,393,971 passengers and December 2014 1,438,363 passengers. Combined it's 2,832,334 - for 23 million to be achieved, they need 44,210 passengers or 1.56% growth.

CA application for PVG-MAN in the Evening News

"A Manchester Airport spokesman said: 'After what has been a phenomenal year of Manchester forging ties with the Far East, we understand that Air China has applied for a route to Shanghai, which is the first stage of a very long process.

'As always we continue to discuss and progress the commercial case for a wide range of airlines to connect Manchester to key strategic markets across the globe, and as and when these are confirmed, we would announce accordingly.'"

Makes a change to see them reporting an application! Of course, it would be VERY interesting to hear what LHR makes of the idea that a mere regional city that in November 2014 had diddly squat links to China now has 4 weekly to HKG (and talk of it being 8 weekly shortly), PEK 4 weekly to start in June (with HU indicating it wants to ramp up service quickly) and now this PVG application,. After all, they indicated that only LHR is capable of hosting Chinese services.

Looks like a lucky passenger today is going to be passenger #23million

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co....ness_Recommended_headline_Story1-1

Airport officials have calculated that easyJet customer Lucy Chaplin, 22, from Wakefield, will be the 23 millionth passenger since November last year when she arrives for a flight to Geneva this morning.

Has someone really been poring over bookings to check the times that tickets were booked or is this anticipated check in time? Not that it matters, unless you're Lucy Chaplin, perhaps and everyone in Wakefield will now know she's not at home for a few days.

There's also this nauseating piece in the FT about the 23 million passenger mark with one analyst making a serious bid at being the most stupid person working in the aviation industry:

"David Bentley, an analyst at the centre (CAPA), said Manchester’s growth was below its peers. 'There just isn’t the volume of first class business travellers. We will know it is really working when British Airways comes back,” he said.'

You may need use Google news to gain access to the article and then 3 random survey questions.

Air China gets the green light to start MAN-PVG services.

"After a short period seeking formal replies to the request, sources now claim an official ruling has now been taken granting the application and the airline will now seek to finalise a commercial deal with Manchester Airport."

"It is understood that Air China plans to inaugurate a four times weekly schedule between Shanghai and Manchester from as early as March 25, 2016 with reservations opening at some point in the middle of January. A tentative schedule shows the aircraft, an Airbus A330-200, departing Shanghai mid-morning on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and arriving in Manchester early evening. The return flight according to this schedule will depart the UK late evening, arriving back in Shanghai the following afternoon, however this is all subject to change."
