Biman Bangladesh DC-10 S2-ACR Scrapped

Fri Sep 04, 2015 6:42 pm

I'm seeing photos on the DC-10 Facebook page showing the DC-10 that flew the types last pax flights being scrapped in Dhaka. Strangely, the other BG DC-10s have not been touched.

I'm not 100% sure, but wasn't that frame owned by BG?

Do we have a public link to the photos, please?

It was the second-to-last DC-10 built.

Just as well I took plenty of pictures at BHX, (just finished putting them in an album).

I also have the DVD that was produced at that time.

It was the only DC-10 delivered new to BG. All their other DC-10s had previous operators, several in some cases.

Too bad it didn't go to The Museum of Flight like it was rumored to.

Glad I got a chance to fly her from HKG to DAC...even though the flight was 24 hrs late.

Here's the documentary about the aircraft and the final flights in BHX and the ferry back to DAC.

So sad! I would have loved to see her in a museum. I had a wonderful flight on her from AUH to DAC via ZYL in 2011. I'm glad I flew on an authentic revenue flight surrounded by migrant laborers returning home, instead of the tourist event.

And BG never did actually launch the planned DAC-BHX-JFK service, which was supposedly the whole reason for the outing to BHX in the first place...

I guess she should have gone to a museum, but the DC-10 had such a checkered history, most of the design problems were recognized in ground testing before the first slight, probably better to let her be scrapped. I know there are allot of DC-10 fans here, but I always tried to avoid her. Even on my first DC-10 flight in 1974 on AeroMexico.

Quoting delawareusa (Reply 17):

Nonsense, if that were the case planes like the 707 and 737 with thier checkered pasts wouldn't be saved. There will be a DC-10 saved eventually, my bet is on Orbis N220AU.

Quoting conrad (Reply 16):

What ever happened to this CEO?

Not surprising, I suppose but that CEO (Kevin Steele) didn't want to be interviewed for my article on Biman http://www.kendonohue.com/articles/AW225_KEN_DONOHUE.pdf
after he left. I had planned to interview him in Dhaka, but then he left the airline abruptly. It didn't take long for the airline to dump the rest of the expats that were working there as well.
