BA 787 New 'First' Preview

Tue Sep 08, 2015 7:45 pm

Well came across this article previewing the new BA 'First' cabin to be unveiled on the 787-9 later this year. Quite impressive and a further evolution of the current cabin. I wonder if this will debut on the 777 next if BA decide to downsize from the current 12/14 seats?

It looks very nice and very chic. For sure James Bond would like it
But I have to say I have the impression from the pictures and the video that the available space is smaller than the new AF P suite that is absolutely fantastic. In particular, the "small hole" where you put your feet is more like a J seat than a P one for which you expect a large bed from top to bottom.

Looks amazing. Seems that they are catching up with the ME3 carriers!

I think Id prefer to fly EK F or EY F for sure. This looks good - but its just a lick of paint on their current product... no real innovation.

Not even close. The cabin looks fantastic, and it's easily the best business class product in the skies. The problem is, they're marketing it as F. This seat doesn't come close to comparing to the ME3, CX, SQ, and the like.

Only having 8F should help improve the premium feel, but fundamentally the seat is only slightly better than the best J seats in the skies; it certainly isn't an F hard product.

Is this supposed to be F? It looks similar to the current US/AA/CX business class.

Their current F class seems more private and elegant than this.

This is a 789-specific F class seat. The A380 and 77W have and will have a different first class cabin.
Upcoming flights:
April/May: AM MEX-SCL 788 (J), AM EZE-MEX 789 (J).

The seat looks to be a cushier variation of the Cirrus reverse-herringbone business class seat, but nevertheless approaches J product density.

you have to expect something less for often less expensive BA F offers/fares/upgrades.

I have only traveled first class once (it was a domestic... NY to SanFran... 772 upgrade because I was one of the few persons in line with the good sense to be really polite and patient with the United counter agents as they worked to reroute everyone during a storm). That first class was nowhere near as nice as this.

I must truly be part of the proletariat class for I cannot imagine requiring anymore comfort than what this BA first class product provides.

Wouldn't the ultra rich just fly their own private jet anyway?

BA is still behind, the product looks great but this fundamentally a very good J hard product.

EY's business class studio on the 787 should easily match this.

It may not be a market-leading product but remember BA operates a First Class cabin on a significant number of long-haul routes from London Heathrow, to in excess of 50 airports.

BA could go all out with a market leading product but the result would be the withdrawal of First from a very significant number of routes, which given its competitive position against Virgin Atlantic and FFP proposition would probably be a mistake.

I think the product looks great except the foot area. That is what makes the product feel "business" like. But the finishes are first class for sure.

It´s a very nice business class product and it looks fantastic, but BA is miles behind the competitions hard products in their F class cabins.

That does make sense, but when I can fly to some of the same destinations on LH, LX and even SQ for the same money my choice is an easy one.

I like the finishes and colors. I hope they focus on consistency, however. This would be a killer J seat on the A380 and 77W.
