Well looky looky. Acft # 889 came through. Noticed there is no nose gear taxi light. LED lights for wheel well illumination.

CAL -

There is a new center pedestal design that is coming out on the NG to resemble the MAX.

Did you happen to notice if 889 had it as well as the new LED's?

Didn't look at # 889.

# 890 is coming through today, I'll go over and take a peak at it. Usually we get a M&E Bulletin showing the differences and we haven't received one about the new pedestals

# 890 did not have a new style pedestal. Compared it to # 819 and they were the same.

New F seats are installed on A319 N808UA.

The following do not show ISP, so most likely do not have new F seats:
320s:
N443UA exited LCQ recently
N455UA exited LCQ recently
N479UA exited LCQ recently
N480UA exited LCQ recently

These 320 in maint bases now
N428UA in LCQ, could get mod
N444UA in SFO, could get mod

744:
N128UA sked to exit XMN 2126/23Nov
N179UA may be headed to XMN (normally turns to HKG-SFO N128UA is covering)

763:
N646UA exited LCQ 2125/22Nov, virtually sure it has WiFi, streaming content

772:
N78003 exited HKG 2183/22Nov, maint only

Is anything publicly known yet about seat models for these 19 domestic 772As?

It had been simple – if it's a 738, it's got DirecTV and not PDE. Oh well.

In regards to 757/767 flight deck standardization project here is an outline.

UA keeping the 15 current Premium Service 757-200s (75J) and all 35 of the 767-300s (76E and 67I).
The 75J aircraft interiors are already in the end state configuration. The 767-300 end state interior configuration will be 2-class like, the current 76E. Some 3-class 76Is will have winglets installed and the interiors converted to 2-class as the flight deck standardization modifications are completed. However, most of the 67I interior modifications will only begin after the flight deck standardization work has been completed and the fleet has been permanently combined. Once the flight deck standardization modifications are completed, the marketing code will be changed to the following:
 75J will convert to 75K
 76E will convert to 76C
 67I will convert to 76N if still in the 3-Class configuration
Note: Once the 67I has winglets installed and the interior is converted to a 2-Class configuration it will be labeled 76C.

The end state 757/767 fleet is currently planned to be 128 total aircraft:
 752U (75J converting to 75K) – 15 aircraft
 752C (75B) – 41 aircraft
 753 (75A) – 21 aircraft
 763 (76E and 67I converting to 76C and 76N) – 35 aircraft
 764 (76P) – 16 aircraft

Hmm..

I show BF as 28 seats.
28BF / 98Y / 238Y = TTL 364

The new aircraft code will be 77G.

While at it and incase missed by others the planned 777-300ER cabin published is 60BF / 110Y / 196Y = TTL 366

end state 757/767 fleet is currently planned to be 128 total aircraft:
 752U (75J converting to 75K) – 15 aircraft
 752C (75B) – 41 aircraft
 753 (75A) – 21 aircraft
 763 (76E and 67I converting to 76C and 76N) – 35 aircraft
 764 (76P) – 16 aircraft

How long will it take to get all of the fleets converted? Do I understand correctly that some 763's won't have wingtips?

this may not be the ideal thread to ask the question but i know all the experts are in here so here i go.
United's taken delivery in last 3 years of 12x 788s + 12x 789s with another (final) 6x 789s coming shortly.
What are those frames replacing? or is it all growth/expansion? As far as i can tell no 767s or 777s have been retired since these frames began arriving. Are they replacing 747s? (not route wise obviously but count wise)? At AA it seems one 763 goes out for every 788 that comes in, which seems to make sense to me on a capacity/replacement basis.

Furthermore, UA's widebody book will basically consist of a few 77W and a lot of 350/78J. All of those are too big to replace the 21x LUA 763s on a capacity basis when they retire early next decade. I understand UA is spending a lot of money to extend the life of those 763s but they remain 1991-93 builds so they won't be around for another 10 years (even Delta is retiring 1988-91 built 763s right now!). So are we to expect another 788/9 order (or option conversion) to replace those frames or will the 350/78J replace them (count wise but not capacity wise) just like the 788/9s are replacing the 747s?

Thanks a lot!

A

Since the merger a handful of 744s have been retired, but their utilization was so low that they could probably have afforded to retire some without impacting the schedules too greatly. In some instances a 787 has replaced the 744, LAX/SFO-SYD is an example. However for the most part they have been for growth.

Since the merger there have been some shuffling around of widebodies:

10 CO 762s were retired and replaced by 14 UA 763s which were converted from Domestic to International configuration. Also there have been UA 763s replacing CO 752s on routes such as IAH-LIM, EWR-LIS, EWR-MAD, EWR-BCN, EWR-AMS, EWR-TXL, EWR-HAM etc..

Is there an update on when the GUM transitions will be completed? Is it a case of once the last 738 and first 73G go TO GUM, then the last two 738s will ferry back Stateside? Then, the 73G's would follow suit?

While I'm secretly hoping for a two-class 763 with AVOD in Y (not impossible), a 764 (highly unlikely) or even a 787 (no chance at all), it looks like chances are great that I get a 763 with streaming content and wireless internet. What I can't figure out is the price. I know streaming content is free, but I have yet to find something on how much I have to dish out for internet access.

Internet access cost varies by flight. Digging up old receipts, here's what I've paid:

ORD-DEN $6.99
ORD-MSY $6.99
ORD-SEA $8.99
ORD-FRA $16.99
ORD-LAX $3.99
ORD-MIA $6.99
SFO-ICN $19.99
NRT-ORD $12.99
HKG-ORD $16.99

I know, and I find that very confusing and not transparent. But it looks like, I'll probably have to pay $16.99 transatlantic.

Replacement for the 744 on the two SYD flights is 772ERs....around the same time they replaced the SYD-MEL tag-on with a LAX-MEL non-stop, now operated by a 789. In many cases the 787 fleet has been used to open new routes vs. downgauging from 747s. SFO-KIX is the one excpetion I can think of to that.

They pulled (or might pull) the engines off to use as spares this winter..there is a lot of engine overhaul work being done at SFO this winter in preparation for next years high season.

I understand the benefit of $elling 752s to FedEx but at a time when UA is looking to acquire used narrowbodies I don't get the logic of simply returning a narrowbody to a leasing company (unless the leasor had a new customer for the A/C)

Is this bird simply at it's end of useful life (24.5 years) or is UA simply trying to rid itself of the non PS 752 fleet regardless of it's fleet needs? I'm guessing this plane still had the overhead TV monitors instead of AVOD but it would still do a fine job flying some shorter, high density routes. In my opinion of course.

The 757s are simply very expensive to operate. As company stated they will be saving saving more than $2 million annually even after accounting for the higher initial cost of ownership for each 757-200 that is replaced with a 737-900ER.

Also United is not short large narrowbodies - it in fact might even have too many. It needs small narrowbodies - hence the 737-700 and A319 leases plus looking at a 100-seater.

At what oil price? That was true two years ago but I'm curious what the savings are at this point. Of course, with only 8 or so left it doesn't make sense to keep them from a logistical standpoint, but I wonder if they would have thought differently if today's math were used.

a 24.5 year old aircraft is far more expensive to operate and maintain than a new aircraft. There is far more to operating
expense than just fuel cost. Also, current fuel costs won't stay this low forever.

Sure there's more to it, but the math is still different today. Lower fuel cost could absolutely have opened the door for a few year delay in replacement (with even more efficient models) at least. It's all hindsight anyway.

At its peak oil was on 1/3 of total operating cost. Even with 50% reduction in oil, the needle does not move that far to wipe away the benefit of the 739.

The 757 are simply becoming growing cost liability across the entire industry. I'd hardly view single contrarian DL as the right answer when remaining pax 757 operators are saying goodbye to the model in ever increasing numbers.

Quick question for the collective on here..

Last night I had the singular joy of flying the last remaining 777 in UA'S fleet that has no ISP. Any idea on when they plan on retrofitting 2515?

Great flight and crew from SFO to ORD...ISP would have been a plus however.

They should keep the remaining ETOPS birds and convert them to ps 28 J standard. It's becoming very frustrating when people book a PW operated flight and have it swapped to the ex-CO config with 12 less seats. If they're going to maintain high frequency between west coast and EWR they should have more than just 15 true ps birds. And some of the ex-CO birds could use a refresh.

My records show 2515 was headed to XMN in Sep, but that was cancelled about the same time 2514 became a donor aircraft for engines. I've been tracking 2515 every day since to see when it would get ISP.
