CNN: Huge Plane Makes Scary Landing!

Wow, talk about overly dramatic click-bait... I am not a pilot but it seemed pretty ordinary cross wind landing...no?

I am surprised they didn't take it a step further, think of the other things they could have surmised from that video:

- Enormous unstable plan lands vertically like a helicopter on a deformed buckled runway with each engine shooting leaking fuel over the wings which turned into a huge cloud of smoke. Plus, did you see how swollen the plane was, clearly suffering from some sort of infection.

Good thing they haven't found that YouTube channel of that Japanese spotter who shoots videos of planes (trying to) land at NRT during really inclement weather / high winds or nobody would fly.

The problem with a 24 hours news cycle is you have to fill 24 hours with news. So what classifies as "news" gets more and more nebulous.

Every time they act like it's something "dangerous" (as they describe that video) or "scary" or some such nonsense. And every time they act like they've never posted the same exact thing before.

I saw this yesterday in a Delta office and everyone had the same opinion as the posters above: This is not news. Looks like a perfectly normal and well handled crosswind landing.

I've read on other media outlets of "almost blown off of the runway" and "near impossible landing" I've resisted from clicking on those links because it's just click bait. There's no trouble, there's nothing impossible about a crosswind landing. Just don't let the CNN folks that this happens on a daily basis around the globe.

Also it was a "sideways landing" according to the headline. Would love to see CNN explain how planes can fly sideways, exactly.

CNN once again is making a completely normal situation seem super scary and dangerous. The aircraft didn't "land sideways" it was moving forward more than it was sideways.

Nothing. That a 747 landing like a crab back then during its first few years of service could have impressed or even scared people I can understand it, but that video depict nothing special. Fox would probably have said that a huge plane almost crashed on landing.

I've only noticed one crosswind landing that I've been on where I could see as a passenger that we had a significant crab angle.

Now that's not to say that I haven't been on others, but my guess is that the passengers did not notice the angle.

All I can say is that Anchorman 2 really wasn't far off the mark on anything they did in that movie!!

To all the ones saying that those landings are not scary, I call BS. Whether or not it is dangerous, that's for experts to debate. Now, all those sideways landings, you can't tell me that your butt cheeks wouldn't seal up against each other if you were in that plane. I worked cabin crew for six years and I'm the first one to admit that I walked out of many airplanes still clinging to pieces of the jump seat cushion.

Well it must be just different strokes for different folks because the few that I have actually noticed did not concern me angle wise, I just don't much like the jostling that can go along with it. Though the one I remember most I really loved, the crab was large enough that I felt like I could see right down the runway (I couldn't but I kept hoping, of course if it happened it would probably have been a go-round)! That was pretty cool.

It is difficult to overstate how much the 24 hour news cycle has harmed TV news. Even worse, the conjunction with the 'if it bleeds it leads'.
