So a small reprieve. Another 4 days.

Quoting N14AZ (Reply 95):
I wonder why so far not a single A345 has been converted into a private jet or governmental jet after its life as commercial jetliner (correct me if I am wrong).

I too wonder why there hasn't been interest in using the type for VIP operation. I suspect the maximum speed of Mach 0.86 probably has something to do with it. Business jet buyers like to fly fast.

The 77L out of DXB in an airline config (i.e. catering, galleys, emergency equipment, LD3s) would be limited to around 6000nm with full payload.

I think that's correct assuming it's late afternoon on a typical hot DXB day, but all of the ULH flights to both the Americas and Australia leave in the morning when it is considerably cooler.

They just can't let it go.

Would be nice if they drag it out a bit longer. I'll be in Dubai early November for the air show and it would be nice to see an EK A345 for the last time.

Looking at the Inflight magazine, Open Skies, which lists the fleet numbers as being :"through end October 2015", I see the A340-500 still listed.

Would the reprieve be related to the unavailability of another aircraft, either awaiting delivery or undergoing maintenance?

I think that's correct assuming it's late afternoon on a typical hot DXB day, but all of the ULH flights to both the Americas and Australia leave in the morning when it is considerably cooler.

The summary from the post I was referencing was "at MZFW" and I incorrectly used the payload numbers based on the OEM MZFW weights, not Emirate's MZFW weights.

Looking at the respective TOW, DOW and ZFW numbers provided in the flight plan, the payload for the 777-200LR is around 45,000kg, which matches what has been posted by other EK employees about what the 77L can lift out of DXB on the hottest days (42 degrees C). For the A340-500, it's around 37,000kg.

The trip fuel burn difference per the flight plan is 17,000kg (77L - 122,000kg / A345 - 139,000kg), which is 14%. Considering Airbus themselves admit the A340-600 burns 12% more than the 777-300ER on a long-haul mission, a 14% difference on a 15+ hour flight doesn't strike me as fantastical. *shrug*

I think the A345 that the Italian goverment just announced ( ex EY bird MSN748, not even 10 years old) is the first example.

Kuwait, Algeria and Tunisia have ordered them as goverment planes, and of course there is the Qatar Amiri flight

I was going to say that it may be time to change the thread title, considering the A345 is still operating more a month after the date suggested in the thread title. Then again - what to change the thread title to?
A345 appearances are getting rarer, more ad-hoc, but I'd guess we're going to still see them flying for a few more weeks.

How strange is EKs schedule for this A340-500:

Now they loaded flights for the A340-500s as of October 30, 2016 again from DXB to PEK (4x weekly), BEY (2x weekly), CPT (4x weekly), CMN (4x weekly), DAR (4x weekly), KWI (3x weekly), LOS (4x weekly), LYS (2x weekly), SEZ (6x weekly), DME (4x weekly), RUH (1x weekly) and VIE (3x weekly).

Flights only operates from Sunday till Wednesday, no flights on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Looks like someone at EK has misscode the operating aircraft on this flights...
