Wow Air Announces YYZ And YUL

Fri Oct 02, 2015 2:30 pm

Routes kick of May 2016. Fares starting at $99 all-in YYZ/YUL-Reykjavik and as low as $149 to CDG and elsewhere with the stopover. Pretty tempting for a certain segment of the market. I got a chuckle out of the prices as I just took an Uber from mid-town Toronto to Etobicoke for $99.10 on Saturday.  http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/wow-...discount-airline-iceland-1.3251746

Ummm.. Interesting additions but realistically how long will this last?

Their yield management will be interesting to watch as such fares to fill seats in a very competitive market likely only bring red ink.

Good luck to them though. Still amazed that 2 carriers out of Iceland are continuing to compete and expand their networks. Such a small country but the stratis advantage of location sure is a plus for them.

I'm planning to try them on YUL-AMS next May. The idea of a half way stop appeals to me regardless of price. I find the 6 to 7 hour non-stop flights to Europe from the east coast of North America tedious. A chance to do a half way break will reduce jet lag I believe.

I find 6-7 hours is actually quite manageable. A stop over on that kind of distance is likely not really that beneficial for most.

Anything over 9-10 hours is when things start to get less than ideal for many though.

I am quite pleased that their is continued expansion at YYZ. With FI in the market, I know quite a few people who have taken advantage of their fares to do their backpacking trips to Europe, and see Iceland on the way.

Those fares seem very low. How are they going to make money with this?

Also, what aircraft are they planning to use to YYZ? I can always spot the FI 757 when it is approaching 23.

Agreed. I had to stop once on Thomas Cook from YYZ-LGW, stopping in either SNN/DUB (can't remember). It killed any rest I could get on the flight.

Are these operating non-stop or YYZ-YUL-KEF? It's peculiar the days of operation are the same.

Both routes are non stop with A321s.

WW135 KEF1525 – 1700YUL 321 x246
WW136 YUL1955 – 0450+1KEF 321 x246

WW145 KEF1520 – 1720YYZ 321 x246
WW146 YYZ1930 – 0450+1KEF 321 x246

So that's 250$ from YUL to Europe, one way. Meaning 500$ round trip. Time, most of which will be spent in a sardine can (200 seater A321, which is more seats than FI's B752s)

No thanks. I'll pay an additional 250$ and fly more comfortably with TS on a non stop. (Yes, i just used the words "TS" and "more comfortably" together. Did a random TS YUL-CDG search for next may, and found R/T $751, tax in.)

According to seatguru.com

WW has 30-31 in pitch on their A321s
TS has 32-33 in pitch in their fleet in Y.

These are non-stops i.e. YYZ-KEF, YUL-KEF

A321 apparently.

I've flown YVR/YYC to DUS with a stopover in KEF back when Canada 3000 was doing that route with their 757s. Even with the stopover, as nice as it is, you don't feel anymore refreshed - it just lengthens your journey.

Now, doing a stopover and actually spending a day or two there - that's the way to go

Seriously? Then you must hate flying 12-13 hour flights.

Exactly. Montrealers are lucky in that they can get to Europe in as little as 5 hours.

You´re misunderstanding the fares. The $99 is to Iceland from YUL and the $149 is to CDG from YUL. You don´t have to add those numbers up. Meaning that round-trip between YUL and CDG would be $298.

It only costs around $20 to get more pitch in the front of the A321's. Probably around 34 in. The A321's are quite comfortable.

I can't sleep on airplanes in Y class and end up badly jetlagged when I arrive in Europe the following morning local time. Coming back to North America doesn't bother me because the flights are typically all daylight.I recently did YUL-AMS and was upgraded to first on a KL 747 which helped but normally F class is cost prohibitive. The suggestion to spend a couple of days in Iceland as a stopover is a good idea. Thanks for the idea.

No, what I had in mind was more like how long both carriers will keep serving YUL? Can the market support both airlines? If yes, all for the better.

That fare is only on Sept 19, 21, 26 and 28 of 2016. Check it for yourself.

http://en.wowair.ca

Every other flight, including at startup in May is at least double or 2.5 times that fare.

R/T 710$ is more the norm. Which is in line with TS's fare.

Assume you mean business (J) class. KL dropped first class (F) service many years ago.

Sucks to be late, there will be further trances of low price tickets released later.

Really, their CEO has talked about getting two A321s before the 2016 summer season. Hardly a big order.
