Finnair will commence commercial services with the A350 XWB later this week, with a European tour starting at Amsterdam and Oslo on October 9th. Furthermore, on the 21st of November 2015, non-stop long-haul A350 XWB flights will start from Helsinki to Shanghai. This is rather exciting news for Finnair and Finnish aviation in general!   I for one am going to see her land at HEL later on this afternoon.

I tried to track her flight to HEL, but I cannot find the plane on flightradar24. Her transponder seemed to be switched on this morning, but since then the sign has disappeared. I wonder why?

There were two new routes introduced in the delivery ceremony for AY. Fukuoka in Japan and Guangzhou in China. Seems to be seasonal routes for the Summer '16 and operated on the 330-fleet.

I'm just reading that Finnair's A350 comes with a ladies-only lavatory in business class:

Guys I thought the Finnair A350 schedule wasn't changed for the flights starting on October 9th but I saw a tweet that the A350 will be flying to LHR on October 15th. According to the previous schedule the aircraft should be doing HEL-MUC in the morning on October 15th. Does anyone have the latest schedule for this Finnair A350 flying in Europe before going longhaul?

Four flights are scheduled for October 15:

Yes she looks stylish and carries AY's livery well, better than their other Airbuses. The next A350 they'll receive comes with an oneworld livery, hopefully more special paintings coming soon. Could Santa or Moomins made a comeback?

Definitely one of the best interiors I've ever seen. While Finnair's livery may be slightly boring,it fits the A350 very well. I really hope to fly on a Finnair A350 one day!!

Two things I notice: the nose gear seem very far forward, I've never noticed that before. The second thing is, I hope the Finnair cleaning staff are very thorough, there are a lot of white/light greys in that interior.

Yes, the landing gear got pushed forward compared to the A330 to help squeeze in a couple more LD3 positions. You can see the same on the 787.

Some AY A350 details:

-WiFi: Business class passengers, Finnair Plus Gold and Platinum members and Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald members have complimentary full internet access, while economy passengers can purchase wifi either by the hour (€5) or for the duration of the flight (€15)

-IFE screens 11" in Economy and 16" in Business

-Ladies Room in Business Class stocked with cosmetics and other supplies

-A350 signature menu in Business features delicacies such as vendace roe mousse, warm smoked arctic char and wild reindeer. The A350 signature drink, Blue Sky, is a mix of French champagne and Finnish blueberry liquor.

-Improved LH meals in Economy, an aperitif service with savory snacks has been added to the first meal.

I would not say small, especially compared to many other Euro carriers. Of course it is not as big as the big boys of Europe, but for a national carrier of a nation of 5 million people or so, I think it is doing rather well size wise. And now with 19 of these A350s on order, it is only going to get bigger. Also, short haul fleet is under revision, either more planes or bigger planes to cater for expansion.

I went to the spectators' terrace to welcome the plane to her new home, it was great to see so many airplane nutters there!

Congratulations Finnair, the plane looks awesome and will take the company to a brighter future!

Congratulations to Airbus and Finnair. I hope they have many successful years of A350 operations ahead. I also hope that all a.netters flying aboard OH-LWA in the coming week are able to write trip reports as soon as possible.

Rather than the normal Kangaroo Route, next time I go to Europe, I will certainly try and take the Reindeer Route to get aboard one of these.
