EK A380 Air To Air Video

Sat Oct 17, 2015 9:37 am

Good Day everyone,

I just came across a video on Facebook of an EK A380 flying very close to another aircraft in which someone is videoing the A380. The smaller aircraft doesn't look like a commercial aircraft but I personally think they were too close.

The video was posted on a Facebook community called 'Commercial plane lovers'

I am posting the link below but I don't have any rights for this.

I'd call this a "near miss". Separation altitude is 1000 ft, right?

Looks to me like that is a video shot from inside a camera aircraft that is filming the A380. Most likely shooting some footage and/or photographs for marketing purposes.

I doubt very much that the A380 is on a commercial flight so why not get close? Makes for much better pictures.

That makes a lot of sense. This is just north of the world islands so very close to DXB

That's what I thought as well, the passenger you can see at the beginning is looking at a screen instead of the A380 which would be unlikely unless he is part of a filming crew.
I'm sure this thread will take off soon

I'd say the A380 forgot about how high his tail is.

That was 50' below

It's a helicopter for one and obviously used for professional photography and filming.

Would be completely planned and rehearsed, there's probably a tv or onboard promotional video somewhere out there where you can see the finished product.

In the comments of the video it states that it was filmed for an upcoming Emirates commercial.

I saw soemthing similar in Sydney: The helicopter had a camera mounted underneath, and followed the A380 taking off for quite some time:

I'm always relieved airliners.net posters are not actually in charge of aviation!!

Aviation in the US and other developed countries has a mind-boggling GOOD safety rating, precisely because they approach safety from a RATIONAL way.

If this wasn't a planned photo up, like it clearly appears to be, then I would say without reservation that it was too close. I don't think his comment was outrageous.

No different than any other "photo flight" except in this case it was a helicopter as opposed to a Lear Jet (Clay Lacy and Wolfe Air) or an old WW II bomber with the photographer in the tail gunners position. Both crews probably briefed the flight ahead of time and knew exactly what they were doing. On anther note, the bigger the airplane the farther away the camera has to be so it's a lot closer when you're doing 737 shots.
