TK is painting TC-JNC to the good old "pajamas" style retro livery.

Amazing! I just flew JNC to CGK a few weeks ago. She was looking good but not that good! Can't wait to see the final product! Well done, TK

Why not on a 77W?

Looking forward to it!

Because the A330-200s serves serves 55 destinations out of IST, while the B777-300ER only serves 26 destinations. So the A330 will be better seen than the 777.

Looks like the paint job is done and the jet is named "Kushimoto" (in Japan); where an Ottoman frigate sunk in 1890 during a goodwill voyage. To my knowledge, this is the first time a TK plane named after a foreign city.

Well, the A320 in 2005 was for an anniversary, so 10 years on it's another major milestone.

It will be interesting to see how long this one will stick around for. From what I remember, the A320 didn't stick around too long..

Seems they celebrated their 82nd anniversary in May this year. Not exactly a round figure.

God I remember that on the A310s very well. Anyway it can't possibly be retro as this wasn't all that long ago. Now excuse me whilst I go and check my face for more wrinkles.

Looks great. Just like the A310 used to look. they should do a 737-900 too to make it look like the 707 and 727.

Why did they rename the aircraft from Bursa to Kushimoto?
From my understanding, Kushimoto, Wakayama, Japan is where an Ottoman vessel sunk back in 1890
The place has historical significance to Japan and Turkey
However, TK planes are all named after Turkish cities
Why is there a need to change the naming to a Japanese city?

That hardly seems like the sort of event one would want to commemorate in the form of naming an aircraft. But, other cultures have different naming conventions.

I guess they wanted to commemorate the more than century long Turkish-Japanese friendship.
And yes it is named after the area where the Ottoman frigate sank, but it's mainly suppose to signify how the Japanese people went to great lengths to rescue the crew of the Ottoman ship.

The airporthaber article also mentions how a Turkish DC-10 in retro colours rescued 215 Japanese citizens in Tehran during the Iran-Iraq war.

But why choose to focus on the Turkish-Japanese friendship I don't know.

It is definitely unique in the fact that it is the first? TK aircraft to be named after a non-Turkish city.

I still think it is strange to choose this one as the first.
I always thought naming planes with other cities in the world is a better way, like KLM.
Maybe it paves the way to name others.

It entered service. Did a IST-MXP-IST rotation on Wednesday and soon headed to TLV Wednesday evening.

Yes it's a very smart retro livery that I probably will never see as TK doesn't fly to anywhere near where I live, let alone with this A330-200.

The old Alitalia livery had a similar style cheatline, as can be seen on their retro A321

And there's the reason why it's on an A332 and not a B77W; it's STUNNING.

I don't get emotive about retro liveries normally, but that is just A-MA-ZING.

It also looks a lot more like the A310 that was sporting the livery than a 77W. However, eveything painted on the tail is larger than it used to be.

A bit like LH naming an aircraft Gander/Halifax after 9/11, as a token of appreciation to the two communities for taking in so many of LH's passengers when US airspace was closed.
