Thomson 787 Engine Rolled Back

Mon Oct 26, 2015 8:45 am

Just read this and cannot find anything related on here.

http://www.aeroinside.com/item/6505/...n-oct-14th-2015-engine-rolled-back

Is this a rare occurrence on autopilot for an 'Engine to roll back'? I ask wondering if it is a typical matter dealt with in training or does one get the manual out?
There isnt really a dark side to the moon, as a matter of fact its all dark!

From what I can make out from what I've read here it's when the engine automatically reduces thrust due to the sensors picking up a fault in the engine.

Unless I'm mistaken, this incident was actually discussed shortly after it happened ... possibly this thread.

Yes that's the related thread. The Transport Canada occurrence report originally referred to engine failure. The later update below clarifies what happened:

UPDATE: TSB#A15A0083: The Thomson Airways Boeing 787 (registration G-TUIC) was in cruise at FL410 enroute from Montego Bay, Jamaica (MKJS) to London Gatwick (EGKK). The crew noted the left engine roll back by 30- 40% N1. A mayday was declared and a diversion to Gander (CYQX) was initiated. The engine recovered passing through FL340; the diversion was continued to Gander. Maintenance replaced the left engine electronic control and the aircraft was released.

Any relation to the ET 787 engine shutown today foring a return to DUB? Indicated engine "fault" but not a failure according to reliable press. Both airlines use GE power, I believe.

Wasn't what happened to BA38 and some other 777s labeled as a roll back?
