LCY W15 News

Mon Oct 26, 2015 10:20 am

According to the Airport Coordination Limited document there are some changes at LCY for w15.

BA are planning to add an unnamed destination at 12 weekly from Feb 16. Any ideas where?

ZRH loses one daily BA flight. Ibiza and Dublin gain flights.

Cityjet are increasing Amsterdam but reducing Rotterdam.

Flybe increasing Edinburgh, reducing Exeter.

Could the new BA route be LIN or MXP?

Link doesn't load for me - error.

Worrying that BE are further reducing EXT-LCY, currently down to twice daily as it is. I can only imagine they will reduce it to a EXT-LCY morning and LCY-EXT evening rotation, skipping the two other sectors. I use it a lot, but I can't imagine the loads have made it into break even territory from personal experience.

12 Weekly is hardly insignificant... must be somewhere fairly important. I'm surprised they don't fly to Berlin from LCY - could it be there?

It seems LX is losing the battle on the GVA-LCY and WX on the LCY-RTM to BA CityFlyer. BA could give LIN, HEL & FCO a try... I would also like to see them try a few winter destinations such as TOS, RVN and INN. They would surely work.
Next flights : BRU-ZRH-CAI (LX)/ BRU-FCO-TLV (AZ)

LX reduced frequencies on GVA-LCY already a year ago (removing the night stop at LCY), I'm not sure why they listed this as part of this season.

I think LX reintroducing a nightstop in LCY for GVA would be a smart move against BA, especially that BA and LX's GVA-LCY schedule is within 10-20 minutes of each other on all departures.

Maybe LUX, as since S14, LG has been enjoying absolute monopoly on LUX-LCY, where BA Express used to fly some 10 yrs ago...

12 flights a week can transkate into 2 daily Mo-Fr and 1 daily at weekends.

Cityflyer flew LGW-LUX, not LCY-LUX. The other carrier on LCY-LUX in the past was VLM/Cityjet. Realistically, I don't think the route can sustain two carriers.

Sad development. In its heyday, VLM operated like 10 or 11 weekday flights on that route and even leased in a BAe 146-300 for peak time flights to cope with demand.

Has been tried, IIRC, twice before, by Star Alliance. It is probably too leisure heavy. Very little industry / finance at the Berlin end that could generate high yielding passengers.

How about VIE? Austrian has tried it, but IIRC the slots were not really great and the aircraft (Fokker 70) not ideal.

BA should start LCY-HEL just to feed the AY's Asia traffic.

Out of interest, what's changed over the years? Why is there not as much demand on this route anymore?

BA are also on the route now. Up to 5 times daily too.

I'd love this route but I doubt it would happen.

MXP would make no sense as the distance from Milan would negate the location advantage on the LCY side.

Ah, lets go completely crazy - BA has acquired two A318s and is going to refurbish them to launch LCY-EWR six weekly and add an extra six LCY-JFK flights!
Let's Go British Caledonian!

Why not? The BLL-LHR schedule is pretty useless for business travellers that make up the majority of pax on the Sun Air flights. BLL-LHR is probably more a reaction to the strong presence of Skyteam and Star Alliance at BLL.

As said, BA on the route. Plus to some extent the Eurostar and a growth of the AMS-LCY route.

According to www.thebasource.com in a few places, but WAW seems fairly common.
