Ethiopian B787-800 (ET-ATH) and KLM Cargo B747-400F (PH-CKA) received damage in a ground collision at Dar-es-Salaam Intl Airport (DAR, HTDA), Tanzania. #ET864 from Moroni sliced through the APU exhaust of the 747.

It appears that SFO, ORD and JFK will lose 747 later this year. Recent fare searches show 777 or 787 service in December.

Adding in some data from Planespotters.net, for those who are interested in such things:

2019:

747-406, f/f 23-03-1990, del 11-04-1990

City of Jakarta (PH-BFI) 30-12-2019
747-406(M), in Combi config, f/f 11-04-1991, del 05-05-1991

2020:
City of Hong Kong (PH-BFH) 30-03-2020
747-406(M), in Pax config, f/f 30-03-1990, del 26-04-1990

City of Seoul (PH-BFS) 30-03-2020
747-406(M), in Combi config, f/f 03-10-1996, del 15-10-1996

City of Tokyo (PH-BFT) 01-10-2020
747-406(M), in Combi config, f/f 01-05-1997, del 15-05-1997

City of Lima (PH-BFL) 26-10-2020
747-406, f/f 12-11-1991, del 05-12-1991

City of Vancouver (PH-BFV) 01-04-2021 Q4 2020
747-406(M), in Combi config, f/f 03-08-1999, del 16-08-1999

City of Shanghai (PH-BFW) 01-04-2021 Q4 2020
747-406(M), in Combi config, f/f 11-10-2000, del 26-10-2000

2021:
City of Nairobi (PH-BFN) 01-05-2021
747-406, f/f 23-03-1993, del 08-04-1994

City of Johannesburg (PH-BFY) 01-05-2021
747-406(M), in Pax config, f/f 30-03-2002, del 10-04-2002

So, it appears they have brought forward the retirement of the Combi with this change. Also interesting to see that -BFH is scheduled to be retired on the 30th anniversary of its first flight.

She's the 7th KLM 747-400 to be retired.

Here two photos at Amsterdam taken since she flew her last commercial flight; the 2nd taken 2 days ago (obviously, both not taken by myself)

Is KLM planning on adding such a sticker to more of their 747's? Why haven't they placed this sticker on one of their newly painted 747's which will stay in the fleet for a bit longer?

On 1 July 1989, the City of Bangkok was named by nine Thai monks from the 100-year old monastery in the district of Laksi. This is the same district where the KLM Catering and crew hotel is located in Bangkok. The ceremony took place in Hangar 11 at Schiphol Oost. More than 200 people attended and a special Thai meal was prepared for the monks.

There is something in this aircraft you won’t find in any other, namely, a plaque, I suppose you’d call it, saying “Presented to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines by Bangkok Metropolitan administration on the occasion of the first arrival of this aircraft named THE CITY OF BANGKOK in Thailand, April 1991.”

Image

This Monday; KLM CEO Pieter Elbers came to Bangkok to celebrate the fact KLM has flown to Thailand for 90 years.
He also returned the plaque to deputy governor of Bangkok Thaweesak Lertprapan.

As you know; the aircraft is now preserved at the Corendon Village Hotel, near Amsterdam Airport:

BFE has been towed to the east side of KMLB which tells me it’s been picked clean and is ready for scrapping. This is the area where the Transaero 744’s saw their demise.

i took a pic. Don’t know how to upload.

Oh gosh I don’t. There was about 3-4 of them if I recall correctly. I can tell you the one with the tiger head painted on it flew out to Ireland.

PH-CKC "Orange" 747-400ERF returned from Xiamen on August 6 after D-check.
All 3 747-400ERF freighters now have the new Dolphin livery.

KLM's very first 747-400 (and Europe's first ever 747-400) will be soon gone.
This was posted on Twitter yesterday; that's PH-BFA in the background getting cut up, earlier this month she still had her tail:

Seen on this picture are PH-BFP, and if you look closely you can barely see PH-BFU behind her.
PH-BFC is just on the left on this picture, parked behind -BFP and the Lufhansa A340.
