Minor typo, my dear 747Classic?
It's still May,i noticed it too late, after the 30 minutes correction time.
I thought nobody would notice it.

A few years ago 3 Combis were still flying in the Middle East I recall. Kuwait Air's 9K-ADE and Dubai Air Wings's A6-COM and A6-DAW
Could PH-BHY fill a replacement need there?

Sorry to re-ask but does anyone have the hours and cycles for PH-BFY? I am curious how the youngest Combi was used in the KLM fleet. Also do the cycle and hours figures allow one to conclude that parting out is only reason someone bought the plane? Also when did PH=BFY have its last big maintenance?
TIA to all the knowledgeables on this fine site.

So sad to see these beauties grounded and headed for the junkyard. Sorry if this was already covered, I haven't made it through all the pages in this thread, but why does KLM management bother to paint out the KLM name and logos if it's just going to be scrapped? Is that considered bad luck or something? It's not like you can't tell whose plane it was, given the brilliant blue fuselage. I noticed that the boneyard in MHV has Thai, Lufthansa and others abandoned where they didn't go to the trouble to paint over the logos.

However, this Dutch forum states that PH-BFY will ferry AMS-ORD-MHV on Monday, June 22. Currently unknown if these are two different frames or the same frame with two different dates.

Not sure about AC's 744M which is still flying as part of Dubai Air Wing. Maybe there is a distant chance that down the road there will be an efficiency improvement large enough that the 747 will get a new Combi design again. Not as a 748 but maybe as a 749 or 74X? Something so comforting to see the hump and 4 holes.

I'm quite sure Air Canada only had 747-200 Combi's, but no 744M. And I'm more than sure that we won't see a new 748-based Combi. As mentioned before a lot of 777's are flooding the second hand market which isn't such an iconic aircarft as the 747 but much more efficient to operate.

It's always possible to request an extension of the expiry date and issue an amended and/or temporally airworthiness certificate.
"The Netherlands may grant an exemption from the substantive requirements laid down in the Basic Regulation and its implementing rules in the event of urgent unforseeable circumstances or urgent operational needs, provided the level of safety is not adversely affected. No getting away with anything. We're all eagle-eyed, here.

That's what I was thinking. I was surprised when I saw that PH-BFS and BFY would be flying state-side, given that the more recent retirements stayed in Europe. Sad to see the KLM 747s that got me into aviation going away....
