FlyBe Announces New BHX And MAN Routes To EU

Fri Oct 30, 2015 8:40 am

FlyBe announces two new routes to Europe from BHX and MAN in S16:

- MAN-RTM - starting February 2016 - 2x/daily DH8-400
- BHX-RTM - starting September 2016 - 2x daily DH8-400

These routes are noteworthy as they are opened while FlyBe has just increased frequency on MAN-AMS and BHX-AMS to 5x/daily in W15. It seems to indicate that FlyBe would like to increase frequencies to AMS even further, but is unable to gain acceptable slots at AMS. By opening routes to RTM the airline is expanding its catchment area and thus increasing competitiveness versus easyJet and KLM on the MAN-AMS (EZY 4x/day/KLM 6x/day) and BHX-AMS (KLM 5x/day) routes.

Please note that FlyBe continues to build its presence on the North Sea routes by opening BOH-AMS and announcing plans from Dundee-AMS.

In S16 MAN-AMS will be operated 15x/day = KLM 6x/day, FlyBe 5x/day, EasyJet 4x/day, making it the busiest MAN route.

Is the UK-NL market overheating?

Just did some analysis of FlyBe's performance on the UK-NL market and.... to put it midly ...Things are not that great!

Passenger numbers have fallen on monopoly FlyBe routes, this could be offset by major yield increases, but it makes you wonder why the airline has decided to expand capacity.

CAA Data: September 2015 versus September 2014 and % change:

- EMA - AMS = 3803 pax versus 3641 0%
- INV - AMS = 3.076 pax versus 3.704 -17%
- EXT- AMS = 3.619 pax versus 4.072 -11%
- SOU - AMS = 10.921 pax versus 11.100 -2%

These routes have seen negative growth in most months of 2015.

- BOH-AMS is a new routes and AMS has been performing below DUB and CDG.

The competitive FlyBe routes are however growing:

- MAN-AMS +18%
- BHX-AMS +6%

But that could be thanks to the competitors.

Views anyone?

FlyBe has announced a deal with DSA Doncaster Sheffield Airport and will base 2x Embraer 195 at the airport for the opening of major business and leisure routes in Summer 2016.

The announcement of routes and frequencies will be made on 10 November 2015. It would be no surprise if DSA-AMS would be part of this deal.
