Second Pilatus PC-24 Prototype Airborne

The second PC-24 prototype (P02) took off from Buochs Airport today at 10:06 a. m. on its maiden flight. The "Super Versatile Jet" with call sign HB-VXB flew across Central Switzerland for a total of 82 minutes. Following on from the maiden flight of the first PC-24 prototype (P01) in May of this year, this first flight by P02 marks another major step forward in the Pilatus PC-24 development programme.

My question is, why? Isn't this market saturated with other comparable types? What does this aircraft offer that the competitors don't?

Rough field capabilities, large cargo door, needs less runway

The landing, after the succesful first flight, of the Pilatus PC-24, prototype P02, reg. HB-VXB, powered by twin Williams International FJ44-4A twin-shaft turbofan engines, each 16,01 kN - 3.600 lb s.t.

The Royal Flying Doctor in WA will absolutely love it, enough range to get from Perth to nearly anywhere in the state and back without refuelling, significantly faster than their PC-12s and can land on the many dirt roads in the desert.

The first bizjet design in a while that actually seems to have something new and practical to offer. The other manufacturers seem to be obsessed with Mach .9 and golden iPad interiors. I think this one actually has a shot.

This jet, although a bit large, would be great for air ambulance throughout Canada's north. I fly medivacs now, with a Lear 35 and we're limited to paved runways. We have King Airs that go to the gravel strips, but they're not that fast and distances between communities are huge.

I would love to see them in the Arctic, but I'm sure by the time they'll enter service in Canada I won't be flying medivacs anymore.

The drug dealers of South America will love it, too. Imagine the possibilities. All these jungle dirt strips you can make an unofficial stop at when flying from BOG to MIA.

Great job Pilatus. 84 orders already and what a stunning plane in places hiterto not open to jets. Love the capabilities and the versatility seamlessly being able to switch from passenger to combi to cargo. Nice feature for a jet this size.
