Monarch A330 Finds New Home

Thu Nov 19, 2015 11:03 am

A330-200 G-SMAN has been repainted in flynas livery. It still carriers the G-SMAN registration though should be re-registered 9M-AZL at a later stage. Furthermore a Malaysian flag can be seen at the rear of the aircraft.

Flynas also leases an A330-300 from AirAsia X.

This wasn't by any chance in Miami? I flew back Tuesday evening and saw an aircraft I am sure with the same livery on the tail.

Hifly aircraft, but previously operated on behalf of Nas and still has their basic livery!

The leased one from D7 was seen parked on a hard stand last week at KUL, I think you'll find the lease has finished on at least one of these, although the I thought they had a second D7 A333 leased. -XXA and -XXK possibly??

Oh, that's why.

Lease was between March and October 2014.

Is the new one in addition or to replace the leased aircraft from AirAsia X?

I recall flying on this plane on 16 December 2011, when ZB did an enthusiasts trip to MAN.

Nice to see it is going to a good home.

Good to see them find a home, it's taken a long time to shift these A330's, considering this aircraft type is in high demand...

Have these aircraft had quite a hard life, with high cycle rates, etc?

SBA leased it from HiFly for their CCS-MIA service.

You are joking - right?! This airframe will end up in Malaysia, flying all economy and utilized to the maximum - guess being c/n 261 not may hours are left (and I doubt Eaglexpress will invest heavily in this frame!).

Aren't you overreacting a bit there? First the aircraft isn't 17 yet, if we look at it that way. Then, how many hours, and more importantly, how many cycles has it logged before? Also, when is it due for the next major maintenance period?

Eaglexpress did not buy it, it's leasing it from Guggenheim. YOM99 and i don't think Monarch was using it intensively, except during Hajj for Garuda maybe, so it is still a good machine. Eaglexpress will damp lease it to NAS i guess.

Absolutely! Monarch Aircraft Engineering did for sure a great job - and the a/c seems to be in perfect condition. However, like Eaglexpress last acquisitions (MH's B747), it seems the company is purchasing "fresh" a/c using it to the maximum. Only future will tell, if this company has the finical background and willingness to maintain the a/c further!
