Lockheed L-1011 TriStar Retirement Video

Fri Nov 20, 2015 3:05 pm

Hey Everyone;

I have been meaning to get this hosted on YouTube for a while and I finally had some time today to get it done. This is a video that was given to me by an Air Transat employee when they retired the L-1011 fleet in October of 2004.

The video belongs to Air Transat and there is no copyright infringement intended - this is purely to share with fellow L-1011 TriStar fans!

Also - here is the companion article that I wrote on Airlinereporter.com!

Enjoy!

Nice video indeed. I can't believe it's been already so many years. I thought the 500 was the last they operated.

I sure wanted us at ATA to do something like this and thought about helping to organize something, but we went out of business prematurely before we could honor the great ol girl.
35 years of American Trans Air/ATA Airlines, 1973-2008. A great little airline that will not be soon forgotten.

I would never admit this to any other group of people, but at the end of the video, when Frank Sinatra is singing "My Way" I got a lump in my throat and my eyes got a little misty.

All in all, it was a really nicely done tribute in an industry that is all too often thought of as the simple transportation of people from point a to point b with no emotion....

I only ever got to fly on one L1011, An Eastern Airways connection from JFK to MCO. It was very late evening with only about 30 pax on such a large aircraft. Anyway, glad i had that one chance, a truly great aircraft.

Nice video! It'll always be a very special and unique aircraft. The L-1011 days are still my best aviation memories.

I'm glad that everyone is enjoying this video - it's really quite neat to see how attached to the L-1011 the Air Transat staff were. The flight attendant that made the comment about the Airbus being just "another thing" is sorta true....Case in point....I've always been really attached to my first car, a 1990 VW Jetta GLI Wolfsburg Edition...but my current Audi A7 is just a car...it does it's job but I would never feel the way about it that I do my first Jetta.

That video also makes me feel just a little less neurotic for being attached to an inanimate object since so many other people clearly felt the same way about the L-1011.

Well, in addition to the aircraft's qualities, it all began with it for TS.
