Bangladesh B738 Delivery Via LHR

Thu Nov 26, 2015 4:22 pm

S2-AHO / BG1012 is currently on the KEF-LHR leg of the delivery flight. Should arrive just before 7pm local. Thought I'd mention it in case anybody wonders what it's doing here!

Why is it being delivered via Heathrow? Surely it would be cheaper to use Prestwick/Shannon?

Probably to make use of the crew base and office. AI did the same thing with the first three B738s before switching to BHX.

Do you really think they have a crew base for the 737 in LHR? More likely they have a fuel contract there that makes it favorable over any other airports.

Just to be clear, do you mean IX and the first 3 738s that came online in 2005-06?

The first IX 738 (or possibly first few) was actually delivered via the Pacific. It was quite a sight to see in HNL.

It landed in Kuwait early morning. I was wondering why we had a 737 from London stopping in Kuwait

LHR-KWI and KWI-DAC are long legs for a 738. I presume it couldn't have done it with pax and cargo though.

I'm surprised LHR had any spare slots as I thought they were running near 100% capacity, especially early evening. Does anybody know where this slot came from?

LHR-KWI would have been a walk in the part with pax. TUIfly NL operates AMS-DWC with a full paxload, and that is 276nm further (and the great circle is a bit better if you are avoiding Syria).

LHR can usually squeeze someone in if they are flexible about arrival/departure times.

I have seen someone mention on here that there are often slots available at Heathrow, just not enough to make a viable schedule. So for example there would be some available for this sort of flight, but they wouldn't make a viable commercial schedule.
