AA751 BRU-PHL Routine Via Syracuse Today

Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:50 am

Hi,

Currently waiting for my flight to IAD in BRU and noticed that AA751 to PHL will be routed via Syracuse today. Is that because of the 757 range and non favorable winds? If so why Syracuse? Wouldn't a AA hub be better?

Looking at today's Europe -> N. America transatlantic flights, they are routing more North than usual. So I suspect that today's planned stop is due to expected winds and tracking making it not possible for the 757 to fly nonstop today. This can be a common occurrence with some 757 transatlantic routes in the Winter.

I am onboard the IAD flight now and the captain did indeed say that we will have to flyer northern than usual due to headwinds. He also announced that the ride will be a little bumpy, great

I'd imagine the pick a quite airport rather than a hub airport so they can get in and out fast, don't want to risk holding to land then ground delays causing a crew to time out which would be a potential risk of landing at a hub airport..though of course if it were to go tech while at the non hub airport it would be a massive PITA, guess op's weigh up the two and have made the call that they have to be the lowest risk option
Must think up a new one soon, slow moving brain trying to get into gear ;)

I've taken this flight a twice times and indeed, both times, we were diverted- once to BOS and once to JFK. It does seem this this route is too much for the 75 in the winter when strong headwinds are prevalent. Pretty common from what the ground staff told us in BRU.
