Worst Airport Code Ever: FCK

The most recent issue of Airways arrived over the weekend, with an article about the old Bonanza Airlines, which served the US Southwest before merging into Air West (which, three mergers later, is now a part of Delta).

Bonanza briefly served California's Death Valley National Park. The airport in Death Valley was at Furnace Creek, so the airport's code was FCK, apparently for Furnace CreeK.

Fresno (FAT) and Sioux City (SUX) airports have had to endure a lot of jokes over the years, so imagine the number of "FCK Airport" jokes there would have been if Death Valley had kept its air service....

In this day and age, I'd say BOM is probably the worst. Non-av fans will occassional use that code collequially. Not good if you say that casually in an airport.

There was the supposedly true story about woman who checked in for a flight to Fresno. They put the bag tag on her suitcase that said "FAT". She got really offended and thought the agent was insulting the woman's physical attributes.

Why do you say that is the worst? If the locals do not like it, then build a new larger airport and be done with it!

There are a dozen codes listed here I find worse, including the OP destination.

I didn't know about Sembach. As per wiki, the code is no longer in use. Is it attached to Ramstein now? I find it curious that it was accepted like that, but I've been reading posts about FUK until now without giggling or whatever.

Just as a reminder, there's a small village in Austria called Fu***ng, the full word, yes.

Never been there but a professor from The University of Georgia that lives across from me is a Meteorologist that studies weather phenomena and I know he took a flight into a FAG airport in Iceland once. ATL-JFK-RKV-FAG.

And it sounds very funny pronounced in Austrian.

Nor really an airport code but i once heard that Fraport (the company that runs FRA) changed its name from "Flughafen Aktiengesellschaft" when they increased their international business. They used the abbreviation "FAG" a lot before.

Loving the humourous way some of the waypoints are named in the States, I'm 100% sure they would have the WHUTT and DAAHH waypoints nearby.

In February, Malmö Aviation and a bunch of smaller regional airlines in Sweden (now under the common name Sverigeflyg and all owned by Braathens) will re-brand as Braathens Regional Airlines and will be markeded as BRA... In Swedish, "bra" means "good", so it does make sense, and flying is such a domestic thing that any linguistical confusion is not even on the horizon, right?
