New UK Start Up Copies Etihad Design

Wed Dec 16, 2015 8:12 pm

Wel, to a great extent even if not completely, Firnas Airways is being helped by Kevin Steele former Biman MD http://sylhetmirror.com/archives/28285

Oh no, not another one of those odd UK - Bangladesh startups! I thought it had been a while...

Well I don't see the livery as a complete copy. Trends will be trends - someone has to start them! Nice livery design...

Two points that strike me.

1. Why name the airline after the first pilot.

2. How much of the budget would it cost to buy 3 A330 or B767?.

This proposal has been knocking around for a while, can't say I am convinced they will ever take to the air though!

Is Firnas pronounced like furnace? Bad name if it is.

Not even their first pilot, but the supposed first ever "pilot",Abbas ibn Firnas, who in reality is as much the first pilot as I am the next in line to be the Pope. I think this start up has much in common with it's namesake, in that it will end up being a generous boast that fades into history.

why would they set up an airline for exclusive service between the UK and Bangladesh ? Is there a market ?
Also, in Arabic, it is pronounced firnas (elongate the a little bit).
For me, the livery looks a lot like a budget airline, when I saw it, I only remembered Thomas cook and condor.
Anyways, good luck for the airline

I find it telling that they have uniformed cabin crew, yet no funding and no aircraft. Nice color scheme though!

Because democracy?

In technical terms:

1. A local company wants to begin an airline.

2. The airline has ambitions to connect a London airport with a destination in Asia.

And you want this to be disallowed why? It's another matter that LHR-Pakistan/Bangladesh are horrible on the yields, but that is when the wheels of capitalism will inevitably spin and dispose this carrier into the dustbin of history, but until then everything is fair game.

I thought Mr. Steele (who was quite succesful turning around BG and getting them new planes) had to retire in Bangladesh, because his illness did not allow him to work anymore? And now he is back with a startup-airline?

Was there more to the story of him leaving BG or did this startup have deep pockets and paid him a lot of money?

Can't agree more, of course it resembles EY, but it is not the same livery. Just like all the "Eurowhite"-liveries aren't copies of each other. Just trends. Like cheatlines in the 60s to 80s.

The second picture just looks too dodgy, those uniforms are probably from primarks fancy dress aisle!!
( sorry for anyone unfamiliar with primark, it's a cheap store in the UK)

Liveries mean next-to-nothing to normal people, but obviously this is A.net...

Good luck to them, regardless of how they dress their employees or aircraft.

There's a lot more to the story of him leaving. He did pretty well (financially) out of it though.

I give it a year. Can't be something that will last very long given old planes aren't wanted by passengers despite prices being good - look at Scoot who have the right idea.

Weird. When I looked at the photo my first impression is that the white field on the tail was a partial image of a hand. Lowest is the thumb and then some of the fingers above. Hmmm...is it just me....???

With that logic, many wouldn't wana fly on LH/BA? they have very old fleet of 747's? I doubt 7/10 people even think about how new the plane would be? they are just interested in going from place A to B with decent on board product.

I can see your point, when it comes to cost of maintenance, repairs etc. will be interesting to see how they handle down time etc.

The low fares crowd couldn't give a monkeys what they fly on...ask most of them after their flight and they couldn't tell you.

My thoughts exactly. And those ladies aren't cabin crew, they are probably hired models. The airline has no planes and hasn't even decided on the A330 or the B767 but they've recruited and trained crew? Nope don't buy it.

And they want to start flights to secondary South Asian cities? Think EK and FZ might have something to say about that.
