What Happened To This EK T7 At MCO?

Tue Dec 22, 2015 2:26 am

This is parked next to where there are a bunch of rental cars parked on Bear RD right off of 528. All of the doors are open on the opposite side of the first pictue. My brother said it was there yesterday as well. So how long has it been there and what happened to all of the passengers that were on this flight to DXB? I would assume they were routed on B6 to JFK or BOS to hop on their respective flights to DXB.

777L. A6-EWB

Returned to MCO almost immediately after departure on the 16th and hasn't moved since. So obviously some technical issue.

Yeah I figured it went tech, but now that I know it's been there for 5 days with plenty of time to fly in replacement parts from either DXB or SEA/PAE. I wonder what the issue is.

Apparently at 8'000ft the Captain halted the climb and requested a return due to a "technical issue".

Another aircraft was positioned to convey passengers who were affected, according to www.theeksource.com

"Following the technical return of EK220 Orlando – Dubai to Orlando yesterday, Emirates Boeing 777-21HLR A6-EWH positioned Dubai – Orlando this morning as EK2691 in order to operate yesterday’s delayed EK220 Orlando – Dubai as EK220D."

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to ferry the passengers to different EK outstations, such as the late JFK and BOS flights, or even onto other airlines such as DL and UA with their late night DXB flights, or even BA, LH, and VS as 1 stop flights versus putting the passengers up for a night at a hotel and then flying an empty 77L in from DXB as a rescue flight? I know its a busy time of year, but I'm sure they could have found enough room for all of those passengers on the 10 or so available flight options.

Without knowing the final intended destinations of the passengers, or whether other airlines provide a easy way of reaching them, I can't say. Not only would there need to be seat availability but also the total journey time might not be any shorter or might include transfers in a country for which the passenger needs a visa, even for transfers.

Nor do I know what options were offered to affected passengers or how many took advantage of any alternative travel arrangements that may have been available.

What is even more bizarre is they keep moving it around the parking pad that it is stored on. I've been watching it for several days now...Funny there is a Royal Qatari VIP 747 SP parked on the West ramp for a week too..I'd turn my Emirates ticket in for a ride back on that one! lol....

I noticed a 737 BBJ today, but didn't see the 747 SP. I might need to go back tomorrow!

ferry the passengers

I think there's something pretty wrong with that idea right there. As in, fly *passengers* on a plane not fit to fly all the way to DXB? If it's not fit to fly to DXB, it's not fit to fly anywhere. Get on the ground.

Yes. In that post I left out that the passengers would be flown on B6 to BOS or JFK, or on DL or UA on the 1 stop domestic options to DXB.

Saw this bird Saturday parked with the tail facing north as I went through the 528 toll booth. I did notice a set of Jack stands next to the plane on Saturday not sure if they are going to use them but those are Never out in that area.

From what I'm told, the panel for the RAT fell off during departure and did some damage to the gear wells or whatnot. It was up on jacks and the gear was being cycled, as a friend of mine posted video of it being done.

There was speculation that the RAT sustained damage as well, but I have no indication whether that's true or not - someone with more info will have to chime in.

Between the fuel dump, aircraft downtime, necessary maintenance, and ferrying in of a "rescue" aircraft, it has no doubt been an expensive incident for EK.

Last thursday or friday, there were apparently 3 EK 777s here at the same time - the broken one, its replacement, and that day's normal flight.

They should be leaving shortly, as least according to the filed flight plan.

The escort for the towing isn't the police it's GOAA airfield operations. The only thing they police are reptiles, possums, and sand hill cranes.

I thought mcoatc was spot on...there is little to no policing at that airport except heavy speed control via radar enforcement entering and leaving , oh and parking too..cant have anyone stopped for more then 10 seconds but thats GOAA jerks pushing all along.

I've dealt with you before in another Emirates post. You have no idea what airport operations is or how MCO operates so I think you should kindly stop talking about it until you do.

Emirates can't put passengers on Delta without paying full walk up fare. The interline agreement between DL/EK was canceled about a month ago.

Clipper, I've multiple friends at GOAA ops and appreciate the fantastic job everyone does. I'm well aware of the multiple regulatory requirements that ops covers, including security of the airfield.

Please take my quip as it was intended, in jest, hence the big smiley face that followed.

I've worked Airport Operations at a Part 139 airport in Florida as well. Granted we also ran the FBO and did ground servicing for the airlines, but he was pretty spot on about what the rest of our stuff was.

No need to derail the thread sometimes some have their funny bone broken, or their irony detector is not in the MEL list.

Back to t topic…losing the door of the Rat, I think is a problem with MX? who pays for all this? will someone get fired, or is it common to overlook the problem ( I am thinking about the AI flight that lost a panel a few weeks ago due to poor MX)

Thanks

I didn't say mcoatc wasn't accurate, at least in his second post, but the text you quoted was in response to crownvic. Also, it was posted prior to mcoatc' clarification post. Nonetheless, I'd comment that the ops job is remarkably different depending on the size of the airport, and as they say, if you've worked at one Part 139 airport, you've worked at one Part 139 airport. You'd be surprised at the ancillary duties and responsiblities MCO Airfield Operations has.

You forgot planespotters! It's getting really old that MCO is paranoid about people taking pics of planes from the Red Lot or elsewhere around the airport when places like MIA, FLL, LAX, ORD, and DFW cater to planespotters. And those airports have way more to offer than silly ol' MCO that is strictly tourist based traffic. Can't enjoy the rare sunny afternoon that we get watching airplanes without being told it's a security threat.

The plane was controlled by MIA since EK is not at MIA and all future flights to MCO will suffer the same fate until EK launches hourly 380 shuttle service to DXB, then 1 stop service via any European airport with a 10,000' runway!

Your right Justin! I forgot GOAA and Orlando Police have an annual awards contest to see who chased the most plane spotters and photographers away..It is their NUMBER ONE PRIORITY in keeping MCO a safe destination. I witnessed a dad holding his 4-5 year old son up along a fence on tradeport drive when the BA Dreamflight 747 was parked here for a week.. OPD rolled up turned the overhead lights on and told him to move on over the PA....Nice..I bet that cop felt good and got a pat on the back for doing something that day.
