So I haven't worked in the airline industry since 2011, but I am fairly certain that part of training these days is you never drive under a jetbridge...especially in a deice truck

As someone who worked deicing for three years......OH COME ON!

Honestly, you really shouldn't drive under anything in those things. Even if you're perfectly confident you'll make it. That, and if you're going more than 5 mph that close to a jetbridge, plane, etc. in a confined space, you're going to have a bad time.

That said, there's not an intelligence test to work the ramp. I've seen a deice truck rolled over due to carelessness, among other nonsense like this. You can't fix stupid.

Dude he wasn't even close. Usually this sort of thing happens when a vehicle will just barely fit or only fit at a certain bridge height.

One drug test coming up!

I spent 4 years at MAF and witnessed the same thing twice, though not a full size truck but rather a pull behind deice cart. Driving under the jetbridges was allowed, and being in a tug, both drivers forgot they were pulling the cart and got it stuck. After the second mishap driving under jetbridges became prohibited. I'm assuming it's probably a similar scenario here too, but how do you forget you're driving a huge truck?

They did it wrong: you're supposed to apply Type 1 before the Type 4.

In aviation, as in other industries, some folks are new and unfamiliar with the equipment or simply have a lapse in judgement. Enjoy some low clearance mishaps at the link below:

One thing of note, those vehicles are not actually hitting the railroad bridge. On each side of the bridge, a couple feet away, are massive guard beams. The vehicles are hitting those.

Lucky someone(s) weren't in the jetbridge when that came though.
