NW And DL DC-9s N960N And N767NC Still In MSP?

N960N was a DC-9-30 that was hit by a fuel truck in MSP in 2005 and written off and saved as a fire trainer. N767NC is a a DC-9-50 retired in MSP to presumably replace N960N. Are these birds both in MSP? Is the -30 gone? Anybody have any information?

DC-9's are not my forte, so you will be able to tell which one this is. Looks like it might be a -50 length but with that horrible color, I can't get a perspective on it.

Saw this as I taxied by on my way to Hawaii on the 15th of this month. I will be flying through MSP again tomorrow, well technically Tuesday, so I will see if I can find another one laying around...

That's definitely a DC-9-30. I'd notice that anywhere!

I'd say -30 also. No anti-skid on nose gear and no hump in vertical stabilizer and no strakes on the side of the nose.
Is just me, or is flying not as much fun anymore?

Yes, that DC-9-30 replaced the ex-United 720-022 that had been retired in 1974 and that had served as the fire trainer prior to 2005. The DC-9-30 is still abeam the approach end of 12R at MSP today. I have not seen any DC-9-50 on the airfield that is being prepared to replace the -30.

It's N960N, the -30

There is a 50 series sitting on the ramp off taxiway S2, to the east of the approach end of runway 35.

You can tell it's a former DL paint scheme, but a bit has been removed to make it not obvious. Has the lower fuselage in blue and the tail in blue as well.

N960N was the first DC-9 I ever got to fly on, MSP-DFW in June 2004, was a great flight. It's too bad it's flying days were cut short like that, even though it probably was going to be retired relatively soon after that if the accident hadn't happened anyway.
