Seems like there has to be a buyer if the price is low enough. Yeah i cant imagine that is the end for this plane, the seller might just need to lower the price, but i i bet it will be flying.

As we have seen, everyone has a price. The right customer (buyer) will come around and it's done deal. While we don't know the exact details of why they want to offload the frame, it is not a knock on the plane itself but more on the ownership.

According to another website the first 787 (Line Number 1) went to the desert (PMD) in December 2011.

That is not correct. This aircraft wasn't destinated for VIP charter and it not belongs to PrivatAir. It is owned (or not, do the missed payment...) to ECAIR of Congo Brazzaville.

That company usally operates its aircraft by another (European) carrier because of the EU blacklist. Usually it is PrivatAir from Switzerland or Jetairfly form Belgium.

One of the 787 test aircraft is on display at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson, Arizona, it is painted in All Nippon colours.
Flying may not be all plain sailing, but the fun of it is worth the price.

They placed two separate orders for 787-8s, one on 14-Nov-2006 and an add-on 15-Jan-2008.

High-risk but potentially high-reward venture didn't work out. I expect this frame will find either a buyer or another third-world operator wishing to contract with PrivatAir before very long.

I was referring to PrivatAir's original intent for the two 787s when first ordered in 2006 and 2008 respectively, as mentioned in their newsletter at the time. That was long before their deal to operate aircraft for ECAir. The global financial crisis and various other political events since have hade the widebody VIP charter market much smaller.

Depending on what was done with the interior it would make a great Head of State aircraft. I wonder if they caught it soon enough in the production sequence before the cabin interior was installed.

Interestingly this tweet shows frame HB-JJH DAC presse tweet. Perhaps the stored frame is the second Ecair allegedly defaulted on. Interestingly Ecair fleet web page already shows a 737 with HB-JJH Ecair fleet

Pretty sure the frame under discussion here is the $165M listing. I think the $290M listing is LN 143 originally built for Michael Dell.

Both of those prices are... ambitious.

That's just amazing it is still there. I take it there are issues with this aircraft in that being one of the early builds it has a bespoke build requiring more work than usual and it is heavier than regular 787s? Seems really bizarre keeping it on the ground where it is performing no function at all - unless it's for tax purposes...

The OP states it is Line Number 315. Should be an up to specs machine then.

This plane has been tied up in legal issues due to a default by the buyer. Not sure on the specifics, but there was a public auction a few months ago.

This is not an early build. It's LN 315; 787-8s were fully "normalized" after about LN 110. I expect the comment below is right: this plane can't go anywhere until legal issues are resolved.

It does seem there is a market out there for VIP 787s. Boeing managed to sell four actual early builds as VIP, in addition to a host of later-build frames.
