The new management of MAS has decided to cut off or even stop most long haul operations, and concentrate on domestic flights, and flights to neighboring countries. For this they would require small to medium size aircraft like the A320's, A330's or the B737's.
Wondering How are Six Malaysian Airbus A380-800 doing? Did they get any potential buyer, or all six are sitting idle?

Two are available for immediate sale, and other 4 available once the A350s arrive beginning in Q3 2017 and take over the LHR route per the CEO.

In a recent interview, CEO Mueller only said that two of them are surplus to MH's requirements, but that they were in no particular hurry to shed them.

They weee too big from day one, two lost wide bodies and hundreds of dead passengers later they're even less needed.
The A350s will be used on LHR and somehow, the A380s will go,or perhaps parked like the Thai A340s.

Such a shame to see a once prosperous and world-class airline start to become a shadow of its former self.
I flew on MH's A380 (actually by chance, I was bumped off SQ) last July on CDG-KUL and it was a fantastic flight with some of the best J class food I've had on a plane.

That's just envy speaking, of course.
Seriously, though, we were on MH's A380 in Y class a few months before MH370 disappeared. It was quite a good experience, and I'd happily fly them again. We particularly enjoyed the Y class seats on the upper deck, with a generous additional storage compartment in the area between the window panel and the seat.
Would be a pity to see those A380s go, but as it stands, they're even having issues filling 777s, so it only makes sense. In that context I do wonder how Mueller currently only sees two A380s as surplus (or whether that was something that somehow got lost in translation/paraphrasation).

Pretty harsh statements in this post.
Germanwings flies around with a nutter pilot that they had already sent to therapy once that crashes a plane into a mountain and everyone still flies them, but MAS flies around with a nutter pilot they didn't know about who flies his plane out to sea and no one flies them.
A stream of airliners fly over Ukraine and the BUK missle hits the MAS plane and no one flies them, yet all the other airlines still get business.
I get it, people avoid airlines just based on bad luck, but still, no need to make such harsh statements IMHO.

Even part that is not known yet. Did the pilot do it? Was it airplane issues? Too many questions remain.

Various aviation publications say that MAS will consider wet leasing the A380's out singly if some airlines just need one or two.

YOu know normally when an airline has an unfortunate accident bookings pick up because lightning doesn't strike twice. Yet sadly here it did probably for the first time ever.

IMHO the A350 is probably the better way to go. Fill less seats and increase/improve yields.

MH has recently been using some 380 for JED flights (I believe they were Hadj flights)

What engines do they use? QF could probably do with one more, maybe two. Ensure SYD-LAX is daily, SYD-HKG is daily, and allow for some slack to reconfigure the product on the QF builds to the new standard. Depends on the price though. QF previously bought some MH 744 during the Asian financial crisis in the 90s.
