G4 Planning "big" Announcement Tomorrow, 1/12

Mon Jan 11, 2016 6:47 pm

Per Facebook page, G4 is apparently planning on making some sort of announcement tomorrow at some point.

Any ideas?

There's a scheduled announcement at MEM on Jan 12th at 10 am on another destination by an existing carrier.

Plus there's this article out today

Im sure its 2-3 time weekly from some city they have large hotel commissions from to another city they have negotiated large commissions from to fill mediocre rooms. That's real big in the Allegiant Mantra.

Its another collection of flight announcements.

I'm guessing MEM gets a new route based on this article about an airline announcement there on Tuesday.
http://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/n...o-announce-new-memphis-flight.html

JAX looks like it will be 3 new routes announced Tuesday.

More hints should pop up on news or social media sites today.

Seeing JAX makes me wonder if LCK isn't involved. MYR and MSY were both added to mainly Midwestern destinations and JAX already has CVG and PIT.

G4 is having their annual spring route conference for airports in PBI right now. It's a longtime tradition to bring both new and potential G4 airports to this conference. Some get new routes, some don't.

No word on Facebook for FWA, or IND or SBN for that matter, yet.

My picks for new IND routes would be IND-SAV (the IAA has hinted at this), IND-AZA (a huge gaping hole), and IND-JAX (resuming a route that WN cut during the Great Recession).

Just up I-69, I'd love to see FWA-LAS return and a new route in the form of FWA-SAV.

Congrats to G4 as they continue to grow and expand and tap markets which are under-served or price gouged by other airlines. Like SWA before them their detractors will attempt to discredit them and ignore the facts that people want choices and that G4 is among the most profitable airlines in the world. So if you work for G4 (and I do not) or if you fly them (I do but not very often) ignore these negative comments you read in this forum as some people have never even gotten over The Airline Deregulation Act of 1977 and think flying should just be for the wealthy. G4 needs to just laugh at these critics who are just like yelping junkyard dogs.

No they aren't. You've got your conferences mixed up. The Allegiant Conference is in late April in St. Pete. The PBI conference is an ACI-NA DataSeminar.

Ever since the whole DFW announcement mess a few years back, I hate this practice. Making an announcement, that they are going to make an announcement. I think it would be a real hoot if Allegiant charged $25 to attend the announcement, or $50 for a copy of the press release.

Remember, this is G4 here. The $25 press announcement fee could also be available as a $99 hotel package and it would only be printed press releases that cost $50. Much like G4 boarding passes, you'd be able to skip the fee if you view it on your smartphone or print it on your own printer.

Just a hunch, but maybe G4 will use BWI as a destination city for DC from small/midsize areas a la OAK for the Bay Area and LAX for SoCal, complete with hotel packages in DC.

G4 wouldn't have to directly compete with large market-focused WN and NK then, nor would they compete with the AA hub at DCA or the shrinking UA hub at IAD.

PIT on its Facebook page says "You might think our newest nonstop destination (TBA Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Courthouse, Downtown) is just peachy, and you'll definitely have a swingin' time, if you're into that! Sand, sun, history and low fares...any guesses where?"

Hmmm, peachy would make me think Georgia, but I'm guessing swinging=golf, also sand and sun, history, that has to be SAV where they already offer service.

PIT-SAV Perhaps other adds to SAV?

Perhaps--like I said, just a rumor that began around the time that G4 started a base in AVL. But much like the Florida markets to/from AVL, there's some potential for bi-directional flow on the route (i.e., not all of the traffic will be originating in AVL).

As always the flights are already bookable and show up on the G4 website.

BWI should work from most of those cities. A different kind of add for G4 but they are undeserved routes.

IND-SAV added is nice! Still disappointed that IND-JAX and IND-AZA hasn't been added yet.

BTW no COS announcement from G4 but the COS-LAS is bookable on F9 which was found in recent OAG thread.

Summer seasonal routes for DC vacations? Tulsa is interesting. Just got dropped by UA out of IAD.

Destin-Fort Walton Beach

We were thinking about this not all that long ago on another thread, with the same idea of Midwest-Panhandle routes. If these two routes are successful, I could see a few more in 2017.

Also of note: G4 is using VPS for their Florida panhandle airport, not ECP or PNS.

So G4 is finally showing San Diego some love. But looking at the new routes G4 is starting, I'm liking what they are doing. Wasn't expecting to see Baltimore, El Paso, and Destin/Ft. Walton Beach to show up on their route map. Savannah with 4 new routes, bravo. They definitely see a lot of potential in the Savannah market the second time around.

Interesting. I would think the SAN could work from numerous cities. Look at a map of Allegiant cities within 1,500 miles that don't currently have nonstop service to SAN, then subtract all cities with less than 150 O/D passengers and there is your list. I'm curious on what this would look like.

I don't have time to go through the whole list but point is, I think SAN could be a huge success.

One that comes to mind is OMA-SAN, Expressjet ran this route at 2x daily on a ERJ and was one of their last routes when they stopped independent operations. The O/D is about 250 per day on this route with no nonstop service. Lots of leisure travelers to SAN.

I'm very pleased to see SAN included in an Allegiant announcement after a multi-year drought! G4 has op'd only seasonally out of Lindbergh Field for a few years now with only BLI service.

El Paso to San Diego starts May 6
Stockton to San Diego starts April 7

Both of these routes are currently un-served and I've wondered when someone would start them; there should be traffic but I'm not sure that twice weekly service will work.

Anyway, I'm glad to see Allegiant finally trying something new here!

different enough to start considering some more traditional distribution outlets , (GDS) as many of these new markets are not common "package" destinations for leisure travelers but more a mix of leisure and some business possibility, i.e BWI-CVG unless that's just for positioning?

With the newly established CVG Base I would say its a way to get the A320/19s to and from the home base.

El Paso to SAN supposedly was previously operated by WN. Flightglobal says WN ended it in 2013.

Stockton to SAN will be interesting. Allegiant has tried SCK to both LGB and PSP but dropped them after a short time. Hopefully SAN will be the Southern California destination that works from SCK.

Like Southwest?

Kayak.com displays Allegiant flights and base fares. When you select the flight, Kayak sends you to allegiant.com for booking. But Southwest flights do not show in Kayak at all.

Is Baltimore considered a leisure/vacation destination?
