Westjet Using 738 YYC-HNL

Mon Jan 11, 2016 10:13 pm

Flight radar is showing 738 from YYC to HNL. I was under the impression that the 738 does not have the range from Alberta to Hawaii. That's why the 763 is being used. How does Westjet achieve this?

Aren't they restricting the number of passengers to make it doable?

It's been done in the past with payload restrictions on the 737-700.

I would guess it's a one-off substitution due to late entry into service of the WS 763s. Likely has a payload restriction.

Hopefully for all concerned, the folks at WS have a different impression.

Does anyone know how many pax the flight is restricted to?

Would this have to be a scimitar winglet plane, or is the range bonus not that great?

It is a one off sub due to an issue with one of the B763s. 2 B738s operated to HNL in place of the B763, both were weight restricted.....

Doesn't make much of a difference if they were scimitar or not....

Is this true?

I know nothing of the newer B737s. Is there not a performance gained going from the winglets to the scimitars?
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!

Yeah there is some performance gained with the simitars but either would still have a pax/weight restriction to operate YYC-HNL. That more what I was getting at...
