Oh so agreed. I'm sympathetic to mental illness, but what happened to having a lap dog you silently pet and maybe speak to? Mediation or other calming methods to get to a better state? I just don't understand how a turkey could calm one customer at all, yet possibly cause anxiety for everyone else around them?

This needs to be stopped before it gets even more ridiculously out of hand. Rest of the world pretty much doesn't allow it and we don't see problems and its quite clear its being abused constantly either as pranks (as this clearly was) or to avoid checking pets as cargo.

Certain breeds of dogs (and miniature horses...) are practical service animals. Handbag sized dogs, cats, turkeys, pigs are not.

There is no harm in carrying hand bag sized dogs and cats in proper containers designerd for them.

As for topic title I actually thought it had something to do with TK Comfort class

I need to bring a comfort human female with cabin friendly dimensions 36-24-36

Alternatively a comfort Bison, Cape Buffalo or Giraffe might be nice.

Now you're talkin turkey! Make my serving plenty of white and dark meat with a generous heaping amount of stuffing.
I wonder if I can have an emotional support animal on the job (Customer Service WN). My Tortie cat is a bit psycho would get an ugly cute doggy like a pug or short haired dachshund to keep me stable while at work. I'd name it Chillax

Well if this is what you call a free for all I'm not really concerned. People just love to be outraged over truly minor things. I think we should be more annoyed with people over a certain BMI, children under 6 and certain others on airplanes than the handful of these innocent stories we see every year.

Airline travel is public transportation and a lot of the public is pretty weird. Part of the adventure.

It's just part of our meltdown of society, especially since the electronic generation started. Then, when these people are told they cannot bring their pet Rhinoceros on-board, they sue the airline. Don't get me wrong; I actually like animals, but dogs are beginning to have more rights in America, than humans have. There are just too many people bumping their heads in today's society and too many people feeling sorry for them.

It's not minor when it starts to affect business. It's causing chaos in the apartment renting industry, as one example... owners are having to absorb the cost of these assholes, and the amounts aren't trivial.

But like most things in the USA, it's only going to be addressed after the lawsuits kick up in earnest. I doubt we're far from that.

What lawsuits have been filed so far?

Has anyone on this site been negatively effected on any flights they've been on because of "crazy" service animals? I'd really like to know. I do honestly think this is not a real issue other than it being "weird." As for allergies and what not, that's on the one with the allergies, not the owner of the animal. They have to take care in every other aspect of life, why not on a plane?

Honestly I really don't care either way, just bringing up a differing viewpoint.

Its a fine line but I assure in this instance I am not.

Judging by the "outrage" some people post about it I'm just at a loss because there are not many stories about really upset passengers. Most of it is complaining about the "onslaught" of these animals with no real harm done. I really do think its making a fuss about something that really isn't an issue.

Has anyone here had a real issue with animals on a plane beyond mild inconvenience? I don't know anyone that has.

As someone who raised chickens and ducks for a time, I can say that i would not want to be seated near one on an airplane. Do you know what comes out of their behinds when they are stressed? Wow!

In regards to people with allergies versus people with emotional issues, if you bringing on a comfort turkey causes me to go into anaphylactic shock at 37,000', I might be a bit miffed. Not sure if there's any legal ground to stand on but I'd probably want to stab you with one of my remaining epi-pens. lol

pigs

Pigs are about as smart as a two to three year toddler. They probably could be trained to outperform dogs in many tasks.
So, a Service pig is probably unheard of, but not unreasonable.

But a Turkey? Well, they aren't stupid and social animals, but they don't rank where dogs and pigs are, but are probably pretty much on par with a cat. Can they even be toilette trained?

Nothing new, on a flight from DXB to KHI at least some 25 years ago I was in Business class and a couple of guys had their falcons with them in the cabin. Beautiful birds and they where picked up straight from the aircraft at KHI.

BTW, the owners behaved and did not stand up in the aisle on take off and the birds behaved as well. Good experience, no comparison to comfort animals

Emmotional support animals and service animals are out of control. It is just a way pet owners play the system so they can take their animals for free with them in the cabin. 99% of them are bogus and it annoys me; I also get annoyed when healthy people use the handicapped parking spaces.
I recently had 14 dogs on a flight to SKB because the veterinary college students were heading back to class.... wow I did not realize vets have so many mental issues.
Some of these animals are very large... the guidelines say they must fit in your own personal space infront of your seat. They can not extend into the aisle or the seat next to you. If you need extra space you must buy an extra seat... nobody makes them buy an extra seat and we just keep.cramming them in.

It is such an idiotic thing. They can remove women for wearing clothes that show too much skin but they have to let a turkey on board, we are indeed heading toward Idiocracy

Feel free to thank Congress for passing more well-intentioned but poorly-worded legislation. The airlines have their hands tied as any refusal to transport these passengers and animals can carry a $150,000 fine. I actually am an animal lover (don't bring mine on trips), but while this started out as a vanishingly small number of people with genuine problems, it's now just an easy way to take most any animal wherever for free. I had five emotional support dogs on a transcon narrowbody last week. They did not make the people other than their owners happy and I certainly heard about it while standing in the door saying goodbye.

Only among crazy people

Or scammers.

Part of the adventure.

No it isn't.

Quoting LAX772LR (Reply 22):
But like most things in the USA, it's only going to be addressed after the lawsuits kick up in earnest. I doubt we're far from that.

That's the only reason airlines carry them. They don't want a petting zoo onboard their aircraft.

Pigs are about as smart as a two to three year toddler. They probably could be trained to outperform dogs in many tasks. So, a Service pig is probably unheard of, but not unreasonable.

Sadly it is not unheard of.

The problem is the TSA will *not* let me bring the proper sauces for a turkey... 2oz just isn't enough!

You are the winner sir.
Quoting AJMIA (Reply 46):
Emmotional support animals and service animals are out of control. It is just a way pet owners play the system so they can take their animals for free with them in the cabin. 99% of them are bogus and it annoys me; I also get annoyed when healthy people use the handicapped parking spaces.

Absolutely correct. There are a small fraction of people who actually benefit from them, but it's a well-known and thoroughly understood scam that airlines and airline employees are unable to stop due to genuine legal concerns.
