Looks like Tam plans to operate the A350 daily to JFK and MCO. Your thoughts on this?

My first thought is the aircraft spending all day at JFK from 0810 - 1930......that's a lot of downtime in contrast to Orlando which is just over 3 hours.

That's what I thought too, but this appears to be a brand new flight. The 767 doing flights 8102/8103 appears to be doing the JFK-YYZ-JFK leg as usual. The A350 doing flights 8080/8081 seems to terminate at JFK.

I would not expect MCO to get upgauged so quickly. You would think people would cut amusement park and shopping mall visits very quickly during an economic crisis.

Is it possible that they might launch JNB service with A350 as well, is the ETOPS okay for this route? Any idea when launch date for JNB will be?

Just replacing the 767s on the longer international sectors. MIA, MCO, and JFK combined have God knows how many daily flights on JJ. Maybe also JNB and in the future LAD or CPT would be good candidates.
Hopefully we will see AA and JJ transfer flights from one another if they have a full JBA. It doesn't make as much sense for JJ to fly longhaul flights from secondary Brazilian cities to AA hubs as it does for AA. And given how much of a hit Brazil-US is taking now I wouldn't at all be surprised to see one of the two carriers give up MIA-CNF or MIA-BSB for example.

It is a terrible routing, and not enough frequency to compete with AC's daily non-stop 77W service. Essentially, if you want to go anywhere in Brazil outside of GRU, you have to double stop, where as AC can take you direct to GIG and GRU, or one stop connect you onto Avianca Brasil. Running a LAN 787 or one of the A350s on this route direct would likely make a world of difference.

I'm surprised its coming to MCO. Plane seems like a bit of overkill on a sub 4000nm flight that mostly sees 767s with occasional upgauges to a 77W (which itself is a lot of airplane for such a short flight). I would think there are longer range 777 flights that the a350's fuel savings would be more apparent on that it would go to first.

Remember that LATAM/TAM's A359's are more leisure oriented. They have the same number of J seats as the 763s (30), just a lot more Y. Their A359s are I believe the densest A359s currently in service. The 77Ws basically have the same number of Y seats as the A359s, but more J seats.
If they are profitably filling J to Europe with the 77W (granted, that is questionable with Brazil's current economic state) than it is no surprise they are not replacing those flights with the A359s- they would just be removing seats from the higher yielding cabin while keeping the Y cabin basically the same.
