Jeez...they REALLY should start charging for bags...they could have more than doubled those profits and made more money for their shareholders. Because that's what it's all about!!!

WN, THANK YOU for not stooping to the level of the other legacies and going full-throttle in treating your customers as nothing more than open wallets to gouge at every opportunity. You have my respect, and my business once I move back stateside.

Yeah, according to Gary Kelly, charging for bags would only hurt the bottom line.

LUV and bag Fees......... The Boys on Wall Street will see that it happens. If I was Gary I would start thinking about it.
As long as the galley has Woodford Reserve I'm a happy camper.

Investors are happy with profit...expansion and new planes coming on line...what else could you ask for? WN has had 43 years of profitability...why would they question him now ?

Yet WN management/Gary can't seem to come to terms to give their contract employees a raise...

Yet airlines don't require unions to run very successfully, with happy employees either...Delta proved that.

Gary said on the call that construction is on-going at MDW, LAX, FLL and MSY specifically. What's going on at MDW?

I believe the bridge over Cicero Ave is being modified to make security larger.

I was just looking into that, thank you. Wish Southwest or the city would renovate the concourses, they just look old and outdated now.

Is it already happening? I thought they were still in the bidding process with bids open until end of first quarter of this year.
They have already added two new screening points in a "half-ass, but it works" manner ... which were much needed.

Quoting airliner371 (Reply 10):

The city is pooling in roughly $250 million to expand the Cicero Avenue bridge and re-tool the interior to allow for the expansion of more shops and restaurants. They want to get a few more "names" in there as far as concessions are concerned. I think there's a plan to add another restroom in the A and the B concourse. Not sure about plans for gate areas, but the money is being ponied up by the city for this one, roughly $250 million or so. I look forward to seeing how it all ends up, the security expansion is definitely needed.

Congrats Southwest! I don't know about you, but I sure like checking 2 bags and not paying for them. I sincerely appreciate WN for this added benefit. WN sets a bar that attracts. Any word on Hawaii service?

But in an earnimgs call Kelly said that WN would not be passing on the savings of lower fuel costs to their customers with lower fares because "people would get mad if we had to raise them again". Low-fare leader? Transfarency? Not so much.

I really think he´s being pretty transparent on the issue. Transparency is about being clear an open about decisions, not taking popular decisions.

So you'd rather have the other US legacies that began charging for bags when Oil went sky-high 8 years ago...and fed us the excuse that it was necessary to offset the high fuel prices. But now that it's near rock-bottom again, they refuse to rescind those charges. Yep, the other airlines LIED...

DL ramp guys are some of the most miserable to talk to. DL farmed out their stations to DGS which is frowned upon by most of the industry counterparts.

You're aware that you're paying to check two bags even if you don't right?

So you mean to tell me that if Southwest was charging $30 for each checked bag, my $73 fare MCO-MSY would've been $13?

I'm no mathematician, but that doesn't sound right.

Cheers!
